Ok I have to chip in on this one because I had an interesting idea. Well ok it's not my idea, I stole from other games I've played.
The basic concept is transport ships. Anyone can build these ships and they allow a certain number of troops to be sent to another player. Any number of these ships can be built thus a greater number of ships allows a greater amount of troop transfers.
Now it would be too easy (and from a realism point of view not very realistic) if this process was immediate. So how I would implement it would be that you load your transport ships and it take something like 2-4 turns before they arrive at the destination. In this time if the individual sending the troops gets attacked the ships would take damage and some would get destroyed as would anything on the ships. I would say that they have a certain defensive action (maybe 100) and if they get to a scrap point they get destroyed and everything on them is lost. Perhaps partially damaged ships lose a percentage of their cargo. Whether only troops can be put on transports or weapons or naq also could I don't know.
This leaves the question open about losing a supporter bonus. To address this I would propose that supporters get say a 100% capacity bonus on their transports and maybe a 50% defense bonus. Meaning supporters can send more troops in stronger ships.
I'm not sure how supporters would feel about this...I think it provides a good middle road that would add an entirely new dynamic to the game though. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.
