Right, less ATs, and therefore less to do, would make people more active. Image

Well if there was less, people would use them primarily for farming/raiding and at times of war targets would be picked with precision unlike nowadays were anyone can mass an entire empire ;)
Im sure thats what he meant, dosnt mean you have to be less active ;)

Still isn't going to make anyone more active, would most likely have the opposite effect. Image

I think people are becoming inactive as it is because of amount of random massings and allaince wars.
Allaince wars use to be exciting to see in the GC, now they pop up every minute, no need for politics or diplomacy in todays game which alot of people use to like doing and kept many interesting ;)
Winking hurts

I'm so glad someone was actually able to make the connections to what I meant. As it is now a single person can be a powerhouse and go up and down entire empires. In the old days coordination and planning were required...not just credit cards and button mashing.

1) The dirty $$s, the crash in $ prices mean those who can afford to spend $ can now buy in seconds what those who cant afford to spend $ have used many hours of hard graft to build. This discourages those who cant afford to spend $ ( the majority ) from playing as their efforts and time they have played are devalued.

2) Lack of updates, dispite many great ideas put forward by me and many other players, nothing changes, admin seems to have given up and other newer games get the new players. Basically SG Stagnation.

3) The cheap cost of war means wars can rage indefinitely, stats have no meaning or value, and the effort people used to put into organised strikes is now reduced to single players destroying whole alliance stats for no reason. This is really a consequence of points 1 & 2.

Tis a great shame, but like many I only play because of the friends I have made here, the game itself has little attraction anymore

What is killing this game? Lack of attention from it's owner, and the only person who can truly benefit this game with more advertisement and upgrades/updates.

What is killing the in-game? People who are ME hunting, ruining it for new comers rather than teaching them.

What is killing it on the forum? Not much anymore since the war ended. Yipee! :smt047 :-D

Well said, Sarevok... The overabundance of attack turns is one of those things that have killed the game...

we still recall the days when ats were expensive and a true resource, rather than something anyone can easily get a lot of...

The issue with the inability of the unascended to compete is also a major issue...
With how things are currently, those not wishing to ascend, are punished...
In the series, the ascended were against meddling, and the unascended were a power to be reckoned with... in this game, the ascended meddle, and the unascended are powerless to resist...

an update that would benefit the game in the long run, is one that modifies the AT availability significantly, and improves living conditions for the unascended... perhaps also for the first few levels of ascension, remove the time limits between ascensions... but do not remove them from the higher levels (6th+)...

in the first short time after such a significant change (especially to the AT system), the game would most likely stall a bit, but then people will adapt...

A game like this is one where greater numbers = greater power, and there needs to be some resource that is limited... with the current system, that resource is time, rather than any ingame factor... In the early days, the limits were many... (skill, ATs, diplomacy, tactics....)
A change in the availability of ATs would bring all those factors back into the game, rather than making it a pointless thing of large numbers... This problem has been known for a very long time, but those with more time than common sense tend to fight solving it because it would mean they need skill...

another change that would be welcome is some change to make roleplay ingame more attractive...

I personally think, not only the high abundance of resources (not just ATs), but also the actual people that play SGW.
I think $$$ spenders are ruining the game, and so are ME hunters/educators, (And scammers ($$$ scammers, only), hackers, and 'bad eggs' who insult others without provocation).

Lack of interest on Jason's part, extremely bad GUI makes, idk, I would imagine >50% of the people that go to gatewars.com will be turned away by the look of the front page.
Lack of diversity between players.
Only 'one' way to build up.
Too big of a power gap.
Too time-intensive.
Lacks addictiveness - SGW used to be quite addicting, now it's just the same thing over, and over...
Too many inactives.
Too many monopolies.

You talk to smaller players who are aware of whats going on and they will tell you its all the ME chasers, random massers and Huge empires that they have no hope against - its a game for the Big and no hope for the small.

wars have lost all meaning and their forum topics are full of c rap and are not worth reading any more.

Who said reducing At's would reduce overall activity? Are you meaning to say that in the last few years that the AT availability has actually INCREASED you're telling me more people are using and playing the game? #-o Perhaps not in itself the single cause or even the central problem.. but it definitely is and it is for the reasons Coyle pointed out.

Cash spending definitely has to be up there and it's also one of the reasons I don't play properly. I mean why bother to work on your account when some jack-ass with a credit card or paypal account is just going to buy all the achievements before you get to them OR just keep an unbeatable lead. The cash spending also gives some nigh unlimited resources. No one who doesn't spend cash... no matter how much they 'talk it up' can compete with that if they were in direct conflict.

Inactive admin. Jason has been promising updates very soon for nearly two years and he doesn't even have the time to come by the forums and post any more like he once did which doesn't help as even with two meets... the community still doesn't feel in touch with him.

It was Stargate, now it's not. That is a MASSIVE problem. Stargate is a large franchise... lots of followers, well thought out... very attractive and established. It was a huge selling point for this game beyond what I believe most will recognise and what's more... instead of playing up to the new ethos (ie. "Ever wanted to know what happens when the Borg fight the replicators? When Jedi fight terminators? Now you can do it!") Jason keeps the game squarely in a bastardized SG theme. ATM it's like Rola Cola to Coke Cola...

Game Mechanics. Stink. Ascension is a pile of rubbish that wasn't though out very well from the start and the only proper way it's ever going to be fixed is to re-do it... but that wont happen because the thought of doing it will have the community up in arms "I ascended to unknown and I want to keep my bonus' and my ascension account because I am a selfish ass!" Ascending should be much much much harder and costly, it should just be personal beings and it should be just a one off thing, none of these levels. You get descended, you're descended and have to ascend all over again at reduced cost and time.
Quantum...well Jason never learns. Farm fest at the start is stupid and gives people the wrong advantages. Having banks that pass on from era to era also makes the idea of 'resetting' redundant and once again plays too heavily into cash spenders (at least this time old school dudes get something as well!).
Main is a bad joke. Somewhere about a year or two ago it was overtaken by utter morons who troll around ingame thinking their something special because they can be available to farm an account every turn/2 hours (it's only impressive to fellow morons.. the rest of us find it rather pitiful/sad)... back in the day at least there was some intelligence and wit around ingame that I don't see any more...Omega used to have penash and leaders who were immediately present here there and everywhere, you couldn't avoid them. You can't win wars without using Jason's system and everyone has decided not to do that... only other option is bring back killable uu, but with the trump cards (aka huge motherships and paypal accounts) sitting in the hands of the ME generation it'd just be a smorgasbord. Resources are out of control and accounts are swapped and traded for or ascending to UnKnown left right and centre.
Origins was ruined by greed, cash spending and that damn stupid first farm fest. It could have been great.
Battlecorps is a big 'who cares?'
The loss of quality and underdeveloped sister games will hit main hard too as they add to the negative image to the game developers and by extension all games connected.

Finally is the community. The community have the wrong attitude. The forum admins are... questionable (and I am being polite), the game admins are non existent everywhere except the down trodden and forgotten Chaos Wars (let's face it... after the very first awesome wave it's been nothing but down hill from there as the game has slowly gone from being Chaos.. to just another organised money purse). If Jason does something to his game everyone has a paddy to the point he's now scared to go the extra mile to bring the dynamic and needed changes.

All I can say is... fortunately for me each day could be my last here. I am just waiting around for something now... and it's not the miraculous update that will never come.

updates, resources, cash spending and so on, nothing will improve unless the owner decides to get back involved in the game and actually implements changes that are for the good of the many not the few, so really is it worth posting ideas when they generate a bit of discussion but ultimately gather dust as the powers that be are in fact absent landlords

ps

also what isnt helping is the lack of advertising and seo for the site, anyone looking for a good mmorpg would have to go through pages and pages of sites to have a chance of finding this game

Indeed...but also let's point out MS techs that create ridiculously big & cheap strong Motherships. Attack planets being completly in favour of sniping and giving insane small losses to the one having them. When you can build a 850bil strike with 500k supers, you know there's a problem. Ideas regarding strike planets on how to cap them are in a thread in suggestions I shall link here if needed.

this game has always been a three part game they are the following.

ASSENDED
has been turned in to a snipeing game no way to really play anymore unless you are there to destroy everybodies hard work and accounts..
there use to be people who played on main to boost there assended acoounts now a assensions on main doesnt give you more then one turn worth of resourses...i could say more but all really know

MAIN GAME
i have spent atleast 4 years on building this account i turned the key on this account . we never pptd, i used every trade for lifers i remmeber saveing for months to get my first ms .back then there was a unwriten amount of defffence to have per your income .wars we putt all on the line we sold uu for weapons to fight we had nothing left when done we used months of growth to win or loose ..you had to log on at least three or four times a day to bank and train ..we had the bad guys back then who spent the so called dollar they tried to get you to pay for protection ..thoose people have gone or faded away the few of us keeped building and growing untill we could gain revenge so they could no longer play as they where .and to day where are we some have grown enough they can stand against thoose who where bullies and now they make peace with you and recruit you and you become what they are doing the same to others and as for the new player what took me years to gain they can get within 4 to 5 months and have a account to war with how many of you have taken a new player in and given millions of uu and bil of naq just to have them leave when they felt you where not giveing them enough ..heck and someone said make it more exspensive to assend i am at the point every two weeks i have to buy resourses to assend the cost is getting high .but its the only way to keep up anymore ...now most spend 4 days a week on ppt to save and build not much playing anymore the other three days they get raped and if they fight back they get massed.so what can jason do not much .there is so much more that can be said about main but i will stop here

FORUMS
save the best for last
lets get right to the point the mods are killing the forums and when they die the game will die and they are doing it faster then any changes jason might every do just keep going on the path of i am god and what i say is right
