i prob would do the same thing those thing never interest me as much as burning *filtered*

mmmmmm, a difficult one.

Well, after taking both chemistry and physics at University, I can generally conclude that physics is the nerdest but Chemistry breeds the maddest.

I enjoyed chemistry best, as making Aqua Regia (HCl/HNo3) and taking a £5.00 bet that the acid would dissolve his gold ring.

(As we get taught, gold is pretty hard to dissolve by acids in our early years.) How much crap do we get spoon fed at school

Well, long story short, I got £5.00 and he lost his ring

Also, as a finale, I put a 2pence piece in a beaker full and left the room.

As any budding chemists knows, a brown gas is evolved and is heavier then air. So, this brown mist was hititng the floor and flowing along so the lab tech was shouting

Fun, fun, fun.

Hehe my bad, didn't really read carefully as I was massing :P

My vote for the most nerdy one goes to chemistry then (I hate chemistry too), as physics RULE :D

Hehe, yea I also did funny things with Aqua Regia like uhm ... "cleaning" a plug of a test tube
anyway, for reactions with some more action I still count on alkali metals or chlorates :smt047

what to vote when one considers "nerd" to be somewhat of a compliment, and one likes both chemical and physical experiments...

Chemistry is much more rote memorization in a lot of ways...

it's often difficult to study the interesting parts without getting bogged down in boring Chemistry equations...

This is my school's first level Chemistry course:
CHE 100 --
Preparatory Chemistry

This course meets the pre-admission chemistry requirement for selected health related programs. It is also recommended to students with limited mathematics and/or science background who plan to take higher level chemistry courses such as [CHE 121] CHE 124 or 145. Topics include dimensional analysis, atomic structure, nomenclature, bonding, reactions, chemical calculations, periodicity, states of matter, solutions, acids, bases, and the pH concept. Three class hours, three laboratory hours. (SUNY-NS) 4 Credits.
Prerequisite: High school algebra or MTH 098.

Math required: very low...

Physics on the other hand, you have a basic idea of what's going on at *most* any level... the cannon will shoot the cannonball X distance at Y degrees incline...

PHY 100 --
Preparatory Physics

This course is suggested for those who have not successfully completed high school physics or have an inadequate preparation in mathematics or physics. It is also a preparatory course for students intending to follow the Applied Physics sequence. Topics will include problem solving techniques, velocity, acceleration, force, Newton’s Laws of Motion, momentum, energy, and conservation laws. Three class hours, two laboratory hours. 4 Credits.
Prerequisite: MTH 104 or MTH 135 taken concurrently or previously completed.

math required: slightly higher.

Still, try explaining electron configurations in a way most scientists can agree on... not possible... too theoretical

I've had the theories behind them explained to me in so many different ways,

it makes my brain hurt...

if all else fails, at least I can use trial and error to figure out the path of the cannonball,
or the mechanics of flight, for that matter. :P

1- :o not many people consider it as compliment
2- you didn't say "we" x2

I voted chemistry because it was the one between both which I did like the least. We had same teacher for both in high school btw...

not true, a very big majority (there will always be a few people who don't agree with a theory for whatever reason ... ) of the scientists agree on the quantum mechanics so there IS a uniform theory for electron configurations.
Older theories like the one of Bohr are only approximately true but easier to understand so you learn these theories first at school until you have advanced knowledge about things. (same thing with Einstein's Theory of relativity vs Newton's Theories)
