Sadly not. This game isn't changing for the better.
Change can also be "regress" sometimes. I'm sure most of us can agree this game became boring and/or less fun than it used to be.

Now, back in the "old school days" (spring 2006)

[spoiler]Yes, I had Kazaa on my computer and I had Win Millenium back in 2006.

Ever played a board game for more than 4 hours?
It's not the game that becomes boring. First, it's the players. Then, it's the gamemaster. Then, it all dies.
Yup. Games like this should reset every 6 months. At least then the whining **Filtered** would have a chance to complain about losing everything they built in wave resets.
Make your own fun. If someone forms an impediment to that, destroy them, or find something more fun to do.

I can't destroy Jason
For all those who have their rose-tinted glasses on, this game has never been perfect: back in mid-05, ETL, Jake, Iron and Fox virtually controlled the game with their coverts. There was no way to kill covert. No way to increase army size except UP. If you trained everything into covert and attack you were untouchable. If someone with a high covert took a disliking to you, there was literally nothing you could do to hurt them.
My major problem with the game at the moment, is that with a couple of tweaks it could be rejuvenated. Develop a way to hurt people but not to much [an attack to kill a % of AS per day] and balance the importance of motherships and planets with normal stats [get rid of MS techs and tie planets to main stats].
Most players now only play because of the other people in the game. With a few tweaks Jason could easily attract people back to the game, whilst enabling new players to grow quickly enough.....The game may not be perfect, but it never has been.....The question is whether we can get Jason to improve the game mechanics.....

Okay... in all seriousness. What would have happened if admin did not add things like planets or motherships? I'll tell you exactly what would have happened... raw UPs would have skyrocketed, like in the case of those LGs or AGs that are now out there and stopped ascending because they thought no more ascension levels would have been added. Players on Main would then be acting like they do on Ascended... shrug off their losses and see their UP recover it within a day or two.
You'd all be complaining about how fast new players are growing... just like you all are now.
You'd all be complaining about how much naq is available... just like you all are now.
IIRC Jason added MSs and planets to give people something to invest their abundance of naq into. I personally see nothing wrong with the addition of these two, simply because they are benefits and bonuses that are available to everyone and does not discriminate against anyone whether they've played from the beginning or just started playing, whether they're asgard or tauri, whether they've ascended or haven't... they are bonuses that can be had by anyone. The fact that planets could be stolen by anyone added a new way to damage someone's account. IMO, that was a good thing. Also the fact that the glitch can be used by anyone without discrimination is also not a bad thing. Just because someone takes advantage of the attack aspect of the planets while another takes advantage of the UP aspect of the planets, isn't a fault with the game. It's a difference in playing style. That playing style is available to everyone and the choice you make in developing your planets is your own undoing and not the fault of the admin or the other players.
If there were bad updates, the ones that come to mind would be...
1.) Reducing ATs at a point in the game where the number of active players were already dwindling. If anything, perhaps make all ATs from MTs should be personal ATs. This would possibly encourage them to use them in-game since it's the only way to gain anything from them. As it is, I think there's around 25-50 less people logging in at any given time than there was just since this update was introduced. Given the number of players, that's 10-20%. This is based on the fact that whenever I pay attention to the number of players online, I have rarely seen it get near 275, when at the time this update was introduced... the numbers would average about 275 and have occasionally reached over 325.
2.) MS Techs... possibly the worst update to date. Supposedly added to somehow assist new players but made them available to everyone. Thus making the people with the largest MSs and higher incomes even more difficult to gain a MS advantage over. Also added to keep down players like Blahh from having that advantage he had over others with monster planets, by increasing the number of fleets.
3.) Autoban scripts... while I understand why they were implemented, there surely must be other ways to keep people from getting negative resources and cheating. The fact that at one point they stopped giving PPTs after the player was unbanned was a crappy thing to do as well.
The change that is probably the worst to come over the years is the piss poor customer service and care-free attitude of the game admin staff.
- Half-assed update implementation without thoroughly thinking out causes and effects of said updates.
- Childish reaction to criticism of previously mentioned half-assed updates leading to his total neglect of the game.
- Response time for unbannings due to autoban scripts and failure to provide PPT or some sort of compensation for unused MTs.
- Lack of response or severely long response times to e-mails.
- Introduction of forum role playing sections while ignoring the "For Admin" section.
