Tell me do you need money to think?


End of the day its all about greed and im not being wrong here but charities no matter if you give them 100trillion pounds to help them out i bet they will still come back for more money ie cancer research.

Thats what i hate about the government they always think about money before people dieing and its wrong.

The point is you can do alot of things if you dont use money but the only think stopping you is the flippin greedy control freaks who sit behind a desk taxing everything.

This thread is not about the utility of capitalism,

This is about a great scientific accomplishment, that holds great purpose.

If you want to discuss the cost of this experiment then go at it, but not the merits of capitalism.

It's interesting. You have to wonder where the buck will stop with things like this, though. It's amoeba at the moment, but how long before someone gets carried away with playing God. Interesting indeed, but we do need to careful at the same time.

EDIT: after further research.. I found out that all they did was made their own DNA. and replacing a bacteria's DNA with this DNA>. THis isnt NOT synthetic life. This is equivalent to synthetic BRAIN. NOT LIFE.

any one with a degree can replace the DNA of a bacteria with another DNA. but they did MAKE their own dna, which the normal person with a degree cant. so it is a start. but not synthetic..

its equivalent to switching one brain with another brain in a human, but this doesnt mean you created your own brain.

please stop calling it "synthetic life" its giving everyone that sees the topic or that video bad ideas..

Thats not synthetic life, its just making the the brain of a cell so you can control the cell's function.

a chromosome doesn't just split into two. there are lots and lots of cycles, and those cycles protect, copy, and translate the chromosome to make proteins.

I know how RNA transcription works, I know how cells matabolism works, I know a nucliode of a prokaryote is not a brain, mr bill nye.

You know how much effort it would take to create all that dna in just the right way that transcription could take place? And the cells can continue to replicate on their own...... alot...

Ive actually spliced DNA and have actually done it in lab. i admit what they did is not simple. but you changed your topic. it was about "we made life, have we been made too"?

out of curiosity, what did u do ur degree in? surely you should know not to spread lies.. (ie. making topic name synthetic life when its not actually a cell, its just the DNA)

Actually i was the first to make a thread about this and then avenger made another so i merged them.
If you want to get your degree learn to figure stuff out.

ANd good for you, you did a lab while a professor/TA that held your hand, on an experiment for which you new the outcome. Next step is to get out their and do some actual reseach to determine a conclusion you don't yet know the answer too; like a big boy.

You really think we're that far away from creating artificial organells, cyto skeletons, ribosomes.. etc
These things are next.. transplatting the synthetic dna was just the first step
