The top of pyramids were made of gold, so indeed, some message sent to Ra? Or attempt to keep the day eternal against Apophis influence (the night)?
As for the sphinx, it might be the key, why did he guard those pyramids? From Seth influence? Apophis'? I think the orientation of the sphinx, of pyramids, where sphinx's eyes are directed to might be interesting to consider. Egyptians didn't pick random placement for those, and I'm sure it had a meaning.
That might sound random, but well, one can speculate quite much on this matter!

the sphinx has been shown to be gazing at its own image (constellation of Leo) in the morning sky, but only as the sky appeared 12K years ago because of precession.
precession=the earth's wobble....and thats a whole-nother subject, since it takes the earth 27K-odd years to complete 1 revolution, how did the ancients have knowledge of precession?!
oh well, dont worry about it, they were only savages after all!

They spent *so* much time observing sky during days and nights and recording what they saw to be used by next generations that it's not that surprising. Imagine a group of astronomists looking at the sky, seasons and different changes during years and years, without all the lights we got now masking the sky during night, to have a very efficient and precise view of sky.
And Mesopotamia also observed sky alot, so if the Egyptians managed to get ahold of their recorded work, then it might explain some things.
Centuries we are talking about, alot can happen and be deduced by dedicated workers.

that's VERY close with the ancient accounts of the history of man. it's recorded by many of the ancients that human civilisation has been destroyed a total of 4 times (2012 obviously going to be the next and possibly the last according to the Maya). its even been recorded in the bible.
even when Alexander was named Pharaoh of Egypt he was told by the Egyptian priests that the Greeks were young, Alexander asked what they meant and according to Alexander's historian, he was told that the Greek civilisation had been destroyed many times and each time they started again as if children...or something to that affect, cant remember exactly.

ROFL, i was waiting for that....you need glasses! read the underlined and tell me where i said i agree with the Maya, because when i read what i wrote at the time i thought i made a clear distinction that it was "according to the Mayan" account of history, if it was my own belief i would have said "that's what i believe".
