well i would still prob need a lot of UU to get my def even if i ascended

To help you, I'll compare ascensions to covert levels. A level 28 covert is ok but with a little time, level 36 is so much better.

Also, no pain - no gain.

Prophet adds 10% to stats
LG + 1 adds 30% to stats
UnKnown adds 47% to stats

it tells you how much UU you need.. when you click the ascend button

on the left side?? or right?
