Re: Who would win in a fight? The borg or Replicators?

the borg have proved themselves capable of assimilating nano tech in the past, in fact they assimilated the nanoprobes they currently used from a species they met in the past "Species 149"

there are a number of factors which have to be considered

firstly, the side which assimilates/steals/adapts the others tech first will gain an advantage

Darth Optimus wrote:Replicators would win easily. They could pose as a Borg to gain access to a Cube. Then cannibalize the ship to replicate and take it over. Or if some replicators could dissolve the nanite bonds, their energy would be released into subspace as pure energy. Just like in SGA episode Ghost in the Machine. And overload the ship causing it to blowup. And if they are Asurans just launch countless drones at the Borg until destroyed.

while it is true that replicators could pose as borg, they would not be able to connect to the collective easily (if at all) and so would be easily identified as imposters

secondly is a matter of scale, replicator nanites vs borg nano probes, which is smaller/more effective/more efficient

borg nanoprobes are able to break down and restructure DNA, so, they are able to operate on an atomic scale

replicators similarly can break down metals etc and restructure them

Sarevok wrote:I have 2 questions that i think will shed like on my opinions (replicators win)

1) How do you kill a human form replicator without a disruptor. Noting that most of the "phase" weapons in StarTrek are energy based, hence no effect on a replicator.

borg are more than capable of adapting to use physical, non-energy based weapons, also, they have access to tractor beams and cutting lasers, which enable them to drain energy from any shielding

2) What happens when the mind of a borg is destroyed? Since the mind of the host is intact, but implanted with devices

hard to say, in order to "destroy" the mind of the borg (as a collective) would require the destruction of all borg, of which there are trillions. The destruction of the individual borg drones connection to the collective would be more feasable, it would however require the replicators nanites to divert there attentions to thus task (and is based on the assumption that they are able to disable/counter borg nanoprobes)

in my opinion, the borg have an advantage in strenth of numbers (debatable), but also in diversity of technology, they also (if memory serves) have the ability to travel to alternate dimensions(universes?) etc

its also worth mentioning Species 8472, the borg could feasibly unleash them upon the replicators and attack the replicators whilst they are countering Species 8472
