JediMasterX wrote:For those of you that don't know I just recently returned to the game that is an addictive drug to so many of us. I've been talking to a couple old friends and some have quit and some have decreased their amount of playing time. We discussed this and many of them were able to accomplish a good bit in RL. Me for instance when I quit playing this game I made $10,000 in a 3 month period, joined the Navy (leave for bootcamp March 21st) and got the job I wanted, lost 60 lbs, and more.
It got me thinking if I did all of that then I'm sure more people have or can.
So anybody else got any progress in RL they've made by laying off of the SGW that they want to share?
That is really fantastic JediMasterX.
I'm not going to go into what I have been able to accomplish since quitting this game, because I gained so much playing it (a husband in Nov!).
It is all about will power, like any addition. I was VERY addicted to this game. So much so that I was scared to go to sleep in case I missed anything, was massed, or had to be around to make sure I was up to speed. I would be at work and concerned that my time could be better spent... playing. It was playing me by the end of it. Then the game started to change and I guess so did I. You no longer find pleasure in something that slowly, but surely becomes a burden to you.
Life long goals have since been achieved. Far-off places have been visited. Promises have been made and life has been truly lived.
Some of the best fun I ever had online, I had right here, in this game and in these forums, and I am forever grateful for that, however I am also glad I could walk away.
It's fun to come back in here every few months to see who's still around. I'm a creepy stalker like that.

Congrats on the wedding!
We appreciate stalkers here so be sure to stop by as often as curiosity compels you. Too few of the originals still play this game so it's great to see another veteran say hello.
I still reckon you are part of the funniest thread in the history of this forum.

wow, good to see some old faces, Neim, Corran and Nuto. Congrats on the wedding btw.
Ive never got to the point to where I've skipped out on important things such as school or work or going out with some friends or school sports, etc. But when it comes down to stuff that you could do instead of play SGW, SGW always came first. Such as sit on my ass and play SGW orrrrrrr go outside and maybe go on a run or go to the gym on my own time and not while I was in school.
However I feel that todays game lacks the addictivess that the game used to have. I dunno how, but it just does. Its a lot easier to get up and walk away from the game now than it was lets say 3 years ago. Maybe its just me.

This game is still controlling my life, but not in the way it used to.
Now i just feel like i need to be online all the time, even though most of that time im sitting doing nothing on the forums, and sitting on facebook. Basic\ally, rather than doing something productive like farming, im watching the turns go over. I could probably walk away, and be just as bored somewhere else. or i could end up changing my life, walking away from the computer in general, and **Filtered** things up like what usually happens.
Then il be back here, with no account, or even further behind the rest of people due to my time out. and hating the game more than i do already

this game saves me a fortune, since my previous hobby was shopping, its a wonder men aren't encouraging their wives to join up!
of course there are times when I really should be doing mundane houseworky type things when instead I'm combing the ranks for UU, and noobs with lots of AC trained (Lizzy's re-education demo at your service, some of them even thank me...) but hell, tidy up and the kids just take the opportunity to make more mess don't they?

...and the lesson is - you shouldn't have children so it will be worthwhile to do some housework instead of farming once in a while which will, in term, mean more time for SGW due to not needing to do housework all the time AND you will have the tidiness you want as there will be no-one to make some mess

JMX - yeah likewise, always good to see some of the old guard here..I just come on forums once per week to update my shop where I'm selling naq for $$ about how much do I have in stock, etc etc, and visit General maybe once per month to scan for potentially interesting threads and then usually once per 2 months I find one, post my 2c in it and maybe check for replies if I remember

And yes I agree that the game lacks "addictiveness" nowadays although I'd call it more like "fun" (which all of us old skoolers agree it does I think) rather than addictiveness as fun is the one that makes one an addict, not some special ingredient

Nevertheless there are also a lot of positive sides to being on SGW a lot - you meet a lot of people worldwide, can also visit them if you become good friends, learn about different cultures and you pick up a lot of new words and can increase your knowledge in English in general. I know a lot of people's (including mine) skills in English have been rapidly increasing since they've joined.. Besides if it weren't for SGW I probably would never have started with designing graphics and graphic design is going to be my study when I enrol the university in 2 years time

So for me SGW has done a lot of good, including earning a few $$ on the side, but has never been a threat for me to become addicted to it - I could walk away any time I wanted, which I've also done on numerous occasions, and come back when I felt like it

Yeah Neim, I remember when you first started playing your english wasn't that good. Now Im pretty sure you're fluent. Same goes for C2.

Yup exactly..Although in my defense - I was 11 or 12 when I started playing and had been learning English for only like a year or two

Nonetheless if it weren't for SGW my English wouldn't have reached the level it did, or maybe it would have but with a lot more effort put in from my side at learning English in school.
I dare say it's the same with a lot of other SGW players ,with their mother tongues being different than English, that have been here for a while and haven't spoken English fluently before they had joined but after they've joined and started using forums - well English is a must here so unless you are really anti-talented for languages you learn a lot simply because you are surrounded by it and can't do without.

the logical conclusion: when ya go a lil inactive you can unlearn english.

Not unlearn but if you don't use it like..at all for quite some time then yes, you will forget quite a lot. Would you not agree, Corran?

Lost some weight, almost finished my schooling, and somebody special still owns my heart. She's ..the devil but such an angel.

Reading tons of books, getting more active with my family, going more places, and enjoying my life for what it is. Making the best of it.

Nothing wrong with that. Congrats

When things only start happening in your real life because you go inactive in an online game, something is terribly wrong and you should probably cut your internet connection and never start playing games ever again ;-) Normally you go inactive because there is so much going on in real life (I know what I'm talking about - I had twins in April).
@ Nuto: that's actually cute. A modern fairy tale ;-) Good luck to you guys!

It also works in reverse. I'm inactive here, but I haven't done anything worthwhile with the time I gained. I've just wasted it doing other things.
And congrats Geisha!
