i dont really see the point in large raw UPs. if you take the current market values (ie, 700bill naq per 1mill UU) at around 38,000 those 3 extra UUs per day will make up the cost you spent getting them in 3 months. at around 100k (or for ease sake given the equations, 101k) its 241 days to make up the difference for that level.
now i get some people dont want to go through the market, cause to be frank, it can be a pain, but unless your going to hate the UP for an absurd amount of time (which im actually sure many of you are, mind by 600k your getting it back by about the 4th year)
tl;dr your better off buying. (but im sure you knew that)
ps.im kinda shocked the market cost hasnt inflated to the point UU costs have balanced out with UP costs to something more reasonable.

A few issues with that train of thought
1) You have to find a seller
2) You have to be below the BUYING cap (like 250m or something)
3) If you plan to raid them, you need to consider raiding costs (repairs, AT)
4) You'd give no bonus to a CO (and if your officers took the same approach, you'd get no bonus from them)
5) Without it, UP planets are useless.
probably some things to consider before only buying UU

probably some things to consider before only buying UU
1) one of the reasons i mentioned people dont like using the market... its a damned pain
2) point, i cant really change that one
3)again, point, i didnt take into account where the naq was coming from. actually, this may well kill anything ive just said
4)which more puts into question the usefulness of having a CO or officers beyond protection.
5)i could modify the equations to apply to planets... if they still work the way i remember (only just got a new account, havnt played in years). this is just for analyzing one source of UP
on a final note, ill point out i was drunk when i came up with these things so dont fault me too much for not thinking it all through

edit: no wait, i was a little mistaken by point 3, what do you mean? the idea is that you have naq and can either spend it on UP or buy UUs, when did raiding come into it?

Bored at work, lots of time and sober

Edit 4 edit: If you're above the buying cap (you also need to consider 1% loss in broker and sending direct), then you need to raid the UU to get ahold of them. It costs about 15b na for each hit to raid the UU

And if ur above raid cap u can't grow without up, and if ur plauge (like many are) u lose units each turn so u need up just to keep ur army where it is at
