Dang, I bought SGU season 1 for about 20€ at amazon, not long after it got released in my country (like two to three weeks)...

I bought SGA season 1 to 5 (full series pack) for about 80-90€ at amazon too, few months after season 5 (and complete series pack) was released in my country a little while ago...

That's some crazy prices you got!

Newest movies I buy them at maximum for 20-25€, and that's when price isn't cut, which is regular, usually got movies for below 16€. Limited/collector editions are bit more costly, but not that much (5-10 more).

1 Euro = 1.35765486 Canadian dollars
1 Euro = 1.3959 U.S. dollars

I dont know what those funny currencies are in real money ( pounds sterling ) but yes sometimes you can pick up bargains on Ebay, Amazon etc, sometimes unwanted gifts, or in the case of SGU just plain unwanted lol But basically the better the movie/series the less likely people are to sell them cheap. Many movies newly released cost £16 in the UK, even if it's a great movie I wont buy it until it's £5 or less, in the case of great series like TrueBlood, Rome, Deadwood etc same applies, I wont buy until I can get them less than 1/3 the release price. For other not so great like I said I consider downloading as 'try before you buy' so many I watch and delete as they are not worth keeping or buying if you never plan to watch them again.

RepliMagni the Brain Cox TV show is like a music video/action movie with a small bit of whats going on in the universe thrown in...I am doing a Physics degree and i learn more in 10 min of reading a book then watching a hour of that show...Did you see the building blowing up in last nights episode and him walking off like in a scene in a action movie :smt021
I would not mind the first season of that was not to bad but he has dumbed down this season..

Also WWE on syfy is there because Vince Macmahon in a very smart man...their main target in men aged between 18-35 and most people who watch syfy are men aged 18-35...i love wrestling but it does not belong on syfy replacing all the good shows i like....The problem with the American networks is they worry about ratings and points and don't see the big picture..for example Stargate will sell loads of DVD's after it has aired and so would other shows if they let them go past one season...Caprica got great near the end and could easy have done a second season...The other problem American networks have is the UK TV channels are getting smart to the one season wonders and are not buying them until they are near the end of the season..by that point alot of people in the UK have already downloaded them and don't watch them on Sky or channel 5... :smt025

The TV networks have not realized that the world community, especially the younger generations that watch their stuff, have essentially become a single international audience... When they release series in one region only at first, they've not realized that the audiences in the other regions won't wait for the show to come out in theirs a year or so later. They will instead download it, and the networks will not get any profit from it...

Should they start releasing it in most countries at the same time, they'll capture a good portion of those non-paying audiences... If they at the same time also release a cheap internet-pay version, they'll capture a few more...

most of the remainders will be audiences they'd never capture anyways...

The movie theater business has realized it long ago, and they're releasing most movies at the same time everywhere...

US has a bigger population, therefor bigger audience, bigger advertising revenue, and to secure that advertising revenue US channels insist on having exclusive rights over a series they buy so it is NOT being shown anywhere else for 6, 9 or 12 months.

Great shame about Caprica, I also thought it was getting very interesting and would have loved a 2nd series. One of many, I would like to have seen more Deadwood, more Rome, more Sarah Connor, more TrueBlood, etc etc etc

Actually, SyFy owned the rights to WWE because of the revenues that would be generated by it. Sci-Fi's target audience is much more educated than the typical WWE audience. The one thing that WWE offers that the normal Sci-Fi programming couldn't offer is... more revenue from advertising slots. You slap WWE into Friday night time slots and you instantly gain revenue from beer and pickup truck companies because you know those 100,000 inbred hicks are more likely to buy those kinds of products after watching those commercials, because they're actually there to watch the show. You slap in the typical sci-fi show in that time slot and you have about 25,000 viewers watching the shows while they air, and about 50,000 viewers either TIVO'ing or downloading the shows to watch later... all commercial free. That's precisely why we keep losing great sci-fi shows. Companies aren't gonna fork up money to buy commercial space, when they know that nobody is gonna end up seeing the commercial.

And that's why most of the decent networks keep straying from their original focus and move towards reality tv shows... it's because of those inbred idiots who are at home to watch that crap when they air.

Very true Max...the other thing about the WWE is they make money on people watching it live the DVD sales and of course the PPV's the TV shows Smackdown and Raw are just shows to get you to buy the PPV's and the merchandise...The reality tv shows on the other end i am not to sure about American ones ( i live in the UK ) and we have the worse shows ever on a Saturday night on BBC one after Doctor Who has ended some dancing with stars or what ever it's called or some tallent show on ITV made by Simon Cowell...x-factor or pop idol going on all night and carrying on the Sunday night as well :smt022
I read online that the x-factor is comming to America i hope to God that it fails and the ratings are rubbish otherwise what ever shows are on the same time will get taken of the air...Shows like this make wrestling look amazing :smt043

Indeed... the reason Science Fiction shows do not earn as much on TV views as wrestling is that the average viewer from that group has considerably higher technological know-how than the average wrestling fan...

lol great put down, you should post that on a WWE site just to see if the fans are smart enough to realise you insulted them :-D
