The presence or lack thereof of webcams is not a condition of manliness. :smt018

Truth is shaving is part of social acceptance as well as personal preference.

There are many jobs that you simply would not get with a beard, just like you wouldnt get them with visible tattoo's or piercings. These expectations and prejudgements on appearance are leftover from the old status and class days like wearing a suit and tie, having short hair etc. If you consider being a 'real men' to be outdoor or manual labor workers then your welcome to be a 'real man', I'll sit in my AirCon office laughing at you in the winter and getting a bigger salary all year round.

On the personal preference side, beards like all other area's of personal presentation and appearance have been manipulated by the media, adverts, TV and magazines determine what we think is attractive to the opposite sex, and commercial interests want us to shave so we have to buy more products.

Coming back to the personal grooming side, many men do those silly goatees, shaped beards, trimmed beards and they spend a hell of a lot more time grooming that men who simply have a clean shave, so on the basis of time spent grooming themselves these bearded men are far less 'real men' than those clean shaven. By this time spent grooming themselves rule only men with shaggy unkempt beards would be 'real men' so it's clearly a stupid way to judge.

Grooming time spent has nothing to do with what makes a real man. Afterall, even men must groom themselves. Grooming only becomes an issue when you spend excessive amounts of time do so.

Besides this, I trim my beard only once every two to three weeks, it is far from looking like an unkept beard. So then I ask you; how do I spend more time grooming my beard than someone that does so daily in order to maintain a clean appearance? :-k
