If Obama had decided to watch him and follow him rather than take him out, that would spell the end of Obama if the public were to ever find out that they knew his location and sat back with a tub of popcorn and watched him.

Depends how involved Bin Laden even is in the network anymore....or was he recruiting people straight out of Pakistan's military training base :)

some 2 year ago they could have killed him but the order to do it was never given. they wanted him alive so they could do their business in the rich area of afganistan, jsut do some research of the minerals that were discovered there.

I believe they just wanted to kill him in the "right time" (whatever it means lol), when they felt it was time to do so. Maybe tactically better to do it now than when they declared publicly they found out where he was located. 10 years after the 9/11 they kill the head of the organization, sounding like a symbolic revenge. Unless he's locked in some secret jail, as after all only a few know what really happened.

And I don't believe in the conspiracy theories surrounding him anyway.

I won't post my opinion yet, but think about this.

Bin Laden is a CIA created Laurence of Arabia used to topple the USSR, and then decided he was bad ass enough to take on the world. Now his body has been 'disposed at sea', and if there is no photographic evidence to the public as of yet. This can lead people to believe that perhaps Osama Bin Laden is not really dead, but in fact, given amnesty for his crimes on the ultimatum of giving information to destroy the Al Qaeda.

Let's not forget the fact that this simple act of assassination can make him a matyr to the remaining terrorists, and even invoke more people to join their cause.

The only thing I find hilarious about all of this is the fact that an individual was assassinated (so they say) in a mansion, probably in front of other people or the other people were collateral damage (or working with said individual and extra targets), and yet manage to find this justifiable by any standard. Assassination is still assassination, regardless of the crimes against humanity. I completely agree that he had to be done away with but what does that make the individuals who gave the green light? Are they not criminals for authorizing the assassination of another individual? Or are they saviors?

Just a bit to think on. :smt047

*If* Osama is in fact dead, nothing will actually change. Those who want to attack others for having different XYZ will continue.

Again *if* Osama was in fact buried at sea then all the US have done is to make a martyr out of him, you dont win anythinng from killing someone like that, either in public or private, either way creates people who would wish to avenge him & imprisonment is difficult too as the possibility of escape remains, even from places like Gitmo or other armed forces base/prison.

In fact that is part of most terrorist plans, to make the removal of 'leaders' a no-win situation.

With that in mind it might have been better for the US to capture him and than along with allied forces transport him to the hague for an expedited trial. While a fair trial allows for him to be found innocent I think we all know that he wouldnt be & after a quick trial he could have been executed at the hands of an international/NATO/UN accepted court rather than the hands of a specific country. Which might have lessed the martyr effect a little

hussein was given a martyr's death. if it is true bin laden is dead, they did it this way to prevent a repeat.

Killing him will make little difference in the grand scheme of the 'war' on terror.

someone said no casualties on the USA side... did they just send chuck norris?

They have already shown a photograph on national TV of Osama dead. His face was mangled by the gun shot. But you can only believe what you want to believe. Not many will know the real truth.

And I've heard the first ignorant response to this news. Sky News were interviewing family members of 9/11 victims and one woman said "hopefully his death will bring an end to the terror attacks". How ignorant can humans be???

'Mangled by the gun shot' - Still no valid proof, and more likely than not, not him. The Special Forces wouldn't tear his face apart.

Very damn ignorant. Just look at the intelligence of certain individuals who create shows like "Paris Hiltons New Boyfriend" :D

Agreed. And 'senior US officials' who confirm that the DNA taken from the 'body' is indeed Bin Laden's are not very credible; after all, that is like asking a goalkeeper to decide whether a ball passed his goal line .. or asking a thief to decide whether he was right to steal.

Besides, back from the CIA days, I am sure they still have some of his (Bin Laden's) DNA on file, as well as physical remains of the original sample. ;)

Nothing is easier to fake than DNA evidence, especially if you are the one doing both the 'collecting' and the 'checking'.

The presumed death is now being celebrated as though every American were given a free ride in Disneyland. Rather pathetic, if you ask me. Especially considering the fact that it took 10 **Filtered** years to catch him in the first place. Living in a **Filtered** villa in a nice rural Pakistani town? Win for the terrorists. :P

My Lord Earendil said it well. ;)
