Football matches never cause riots, it's the brainless thugs that cause riots.

I would call in the British Army, just think if they attack one of the Airports or even Buckingham palace. Not long ago they attacked the royal family in the students riots.

The furniture store was a family owned business that had been in Croydon for 100 years, destroyed in one night.
Those thugs wouldn't like it if they watched their own homes burn down as a result of mindless violence.

i agree but apparently it would cost to much money to bring in the army and the TA...
i live about 10min drive away from croydon where riots and fires are happening and its just mayhem... thing is the police can't do anything and the rioters are on the move and have looted and set alight all the shopping area's near where i live apart from one which i hope they don't hit as there are houses above all the shops

EDIT: @clarkey i knew that shop used to drive past it when leaving croydon...

It is difficult to see how and when this will end. The police don't know what target will be next so the rioters get a head start on them. The fires are being left to burn and grow because the fire fighters won't attend without adequate protection from the police.
As seen tonight there was heavy police presence in places like Lewisham that had violence, but other areas that were hit have no police presence. With the random targets each night I find it hard to believe it will end in a few days.

This has been really upsetting for me to follow, as I've friends who live in London and many of the other towns where rioting is going on. Some of whom I have been unable to contact.
I hope everyone on the forum will safe and their property goes unharmed. I also hope that the riots stop soon.

I have been watching the rioting for the last 12 hours on sky news, really it is shocking. Being an hour away from london makes me edgy, but i recon if it goes anywhere, itll go to brighton. Yea i hope to anybody in here you stay safe

In most of these cities/towns the areas being targetted are shopping areas. Obviously some of these will have residential areas within the shopping areas too. But for anyone living in areas away from their town centre i think will be safe. But I for one will not be going late night shopping this week.
If we don't put heavily armed police on the streets then they'll be uproar from the community that the police aren't doing enough. It's a lose/lose situation for the police and gov.

this wont stop for a while i agree... the things that saddens me is everything i have grown up with ie: the shops and local businesses have been destroyed in a space of a night

and there is nothing i can do about it or the police can do
they are just mindless thugs taking advantage of a situation showing no mercy burning everything down
