This coming from the person masking? Who can't actually compose a reasoned reply?
I agree femme - and I personally think NO national holidays should ever be made a global announcement, but that's just me. Hence the thread to see what others think.
search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keywords=ffsMasking, hmm odd the
ABBREVIATION was never masked/banned or filtered and as you can see by just clicking above link several moderators and admins use it multiple times over the last 4 years.
I can't come up with a reasoned reply? You can't even come up with a reasoned complaint, just crying because it wasn't your nations holiday globalized. Im sure a lot more than those who posted celebrate the holiday, I personally see holiday threads all the time and ignore them..

I think it should be based on the demand/interest of the community. We have a lot of American players, most of whom presumably celebrate thanksgiving, but markedly less Albanians, I suspect.

I ignore them all the time too....except when they're thrust into every section of the forum through a completely unnecessary global announcement

Mordack wrote:I think it should be based on the demand/interest of the community. We have a lot of American players, most of whom presumably celebrate thanksgiving, but markedly less Albanians, I suspect.
Perhaps, but judging from the three replies it received, there was clearly no demand for the thread to be made a global announcement either.
What happens if we get four vocal Albanians wanting a global announcement for tomorrow? I'm sure I could find them....or invent them....quickly enough
Which is now the problem - how can you reasonably reject the globalisation of ANY national holiday from now on? The precedent is clearly there. Hence, why I'd suggest it would be infinitely easier and simpler just to say no national holidays get global announcements...

Nothing matters in the grand scheme of things. By extension of your argument, no one should care about anything, and everyone should shut up and drive the road laid out before them. How terribly boring.
However, it is true. You
should just ignore most threads on the forum. None of it matters.

Magni, quit fussing about trivial things.

(I still object to the concept of 'global holidays', as I consider that to be a Western attempt at hijacking -primarily Oriental- cultures.)

Global for the forum community, not for the world. A good 90+% of forum members are from extended version of "Western World". I don't see
at all the problem to call them global holidays given that.
This is political correctness to say it's an issue to call Christmas/New Year/Easter, global holidays in a mostly-not-completely "western" community.

Does Slovenia have many national holidays?

I really don't see what a big deal it is. The thread was only Global for 1 day. One. If it was longer, maybe I would have a problem with it. It's like a Mod making a thread Global for a member's birthday.
There is a small difference from Thanksgiving and other national holidays. Thanksgiving, in my opinion, is something anyone can celebrate because it is about being thankful for what you have and spending time with family. Maybe people would have less of a problem if the thread asked "What are you thankful for?" instead of being targeted at Americans.
As for the argument that only 3 people posted in the thread saying, "Happy Thanksgiving." All I can say to that is Jack is not psychic. There are several Americans on the forum and he may have thought it would be more popular than it was.
If someone would like to make, or have a Mod make, a thread a Global Announcement, or even just a Sticky, all they have to do is ask. If it's a one day thread, I don't see the harm in it. This goes for birthdays, holidays, whatever.

Lets just make one holiday and celebrate it each year. The day MGM made this game become GateWars. Sound fair?

why Christmas and new year , it sounds racists/discriminating to me.
no national , international or religious fests shall be in this category otherwise the forum risk to discriminate minorities or appear racist.

Well we shouldnt really blame MGM. We should blame
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1268 this person for telling MGM.

Racist? Since when people celebrating Christmas or New Year count as an 'ethny' or a group of?

That doesn't make it "racist". Also, this isn't about declaring it to be global holidays for the "real life world", but to be global announcements for this game's forum community.
Not to mention these three holidays aren't even based on a conflict or anything of that sort (for example: one country celebrating its victory against another in a war/conflict in a national holiday).
