I think they are actually pointless, I say this because why wait until a new year to do something or to commit to something. If you want something or to do something then do it, don't wait until a new year to do it because it makes no difference when you do it. I know where you're coming from but I guess it's just that little bit of extra motivation to do it.

If you need a New Year to give you that little bit of extra motivation then you're gonna fail before you even start. If you really want something you don't need anything to give you motivation because it is your "wanting" to do it that gives you enough motivation. If you need an external source or secondary source to give you that motivation then you don't really want to do whatever it is in the first place.
