Well then, it seems like we've found the root cause of the issue.

good like trying to get something like this passed.
I had opposition from a simple rule vote, that was already agreed to be changed.

This? Rofl.

I'd like to see something tried, but I highly doubt it'll happen in this life time.

I'm not going to try and get anything passed, I just put the suggestion out there. It is up to the community to get it passed if they want it, no skin off my back.

It would be the same as voting. All of DDE vote for a few people in dde, TAF vote for a few people in TAF. Same with OE,TL,HVE.

So infact your logic is dumb and not worthy of being a post, as im sure none of the people all of DDE/TAF/OE/HVE/TL voted in from there empire/alliance are not able to mod fairly as you say.

Just saying...
This is one of the blockages of this forum moving on to a friendlier community. The first thing you think of doing and act on is to insult a user. You couldn't even give your own view on the suggestion I made, all you saw was an opportunity to attack another user, call their logic dumb and claim their post not worthy of being a post. No other user, whether user or staff in this thread has come close to such an attack as you have. You disappoint me.

Global Moderators should be chosen by the Administrators, based on their moderation experience.

Moderators should be recommended by the GMs, and okay'd by the Administrators. Users would be recommended based upon how active and knowledgeable they are about their respective section(s).

Ombudsman is the link between the public and the forum staff, as voted on by the users.

We, the community, are a direct creation of the SGW developer, Jason. It should be a top-down process and have a clear hierarchy. Stop making this about who's friends are who's. I'm nobody's friend. In my 7 years here, I've spoken to 3 people on a regular basis. I've made my fair share of enemies, and barely any friends. Yet, here I am. I had a desire to give back to the game which provided me years of entertainment, and here I am.

tl;dr, if you want something done right, do it yourself.
100% agreed with this. (Though I speak with many more.)
This is how it should generally be done, but guess what, it's never going to happen as Jason has never been that sort of person. So where is the harm in giving the opportunity to the community to choose who helps run their community? Afterall this is the communities forum as much as it is Jasons.

Root cause of the issue? What issue? The issues on this forum are so trivial and could easily be sorted out if community and staff sat down and talked with no flame throwing or insulting. Placing the root cause at Jason's door step is deflecting the focus away from the real solution.

Re: Try a Mod vote system

There were not many votes in the ombudsman election, nor many candidates. I like clarkey's idea, but it would be required there is at least SOME turnout in the votes. Still worth a try though.

just to expand a little on that

without question some past mods got in only because they were buddies with previous admins and GMs and they pretty much did nothing ended up getting booted out.

in my eyes i feel if you were to say you get to vote your mods in then it'd be the exact same thing as the awards popularity, empires voting for their own and before you know it everyone comes from the same pact and the forum declines. simply because they just ban who they don't like for the minimal reasons, and allow their own to spout what ever they liked without challenge.

if you look through the awards and voting you'll see what i mean.

the only suggestion to having a voted in mods was what i suggested about a year ago their should be a handful of selected people by the GM's and Admins who (a short list if you will) that then from that a polls can be made.

This seems like the best idea, reducing almost all chances of the whole "popularity contest" argument.

Re: Try a Mod vote system

If this were to happen you would want to minimize the popularity vote, so have those interested in becoming mods send a PM to an admin stating their reasons behind wanting to be a mod and how best they can help. The admins then take all of the PM's minus the persons name set them up mod app (1,2,3,etc.) If the person trying to become a mod truly wants to help they will not tell their friends which one they are or even that they are running. People would then vote without knowledge of the person they are voting for. Obviously needs more work but basic thought to help things out.

Sometimes knowledge is required for selection... for example, we don't exactly want a mod who is 1 warning away from a permaban, who shows a lack of control in regards to the rules themselves.

That kind of thing could be covered in the Admin screening process.

Re: Try a Mod vote system

as Psyko said that is one of the reason's they PM the admins directly. Of course there are still flaws its just a start after all. This would be a relatively valid option though, the whole thing not just my addition to it. I would definitely love to see how the community as a whole votes. I bet you'd see a lot of familiar faces in the blue corner :-"

Ah I see, the people vote, not the admins for that part
