Except you have the issue of flashbulb memory. Which triggers during a significant/traumatic experiences during ones life, allowing you to recall the most intricate details you ordinarily wouldnt have noticed.
e.g my memory is crap, but i remember the exact moment i learned of september 11th terroist attack.
