How about when you are massing some one and you destroy all their shields on their motherships then their support ships are destroyed also??

Thats how they come in handy!
Although they would only carry a fraction of the potentiel of your MS...
They are your backup plan. Say your target only has one support ships and although their MS trumps your's, because their support ship(s) can only be a fraction as powerful as the MS that means the fact that you have all three of your's lets you win the battle... (Of the fleets anyways...) Ground forces on the other hand... Well your on your own there.. :P

What about no capacity required for support ships, seeing as they already have a capacity??

Instead maybe make weapons & shields cost the same but have half the effect.

i personally prefer the thread schlessed made about support ships better...his has more ship type variety than Jix's ^.^

yes i also agree that this is a good idea and i have my 2 cents to add

the support ships should be race specific and should only be available once a new technology has been purchased and as such would be in stages so that if yu by mother ship support you could do this in three stages each allowing you to purchase an extra support ship

also a support ship shouldn't provide a gret deal of ground support but instead tie up the opponent mother ship while yours provides the support this is debateble

support ships could be loan able but a limetation of the recipient needing either a certain tech level such a reciver support status either bought on the market or as a technology the reciver of a support ship should be of the same race other wise you cant use it

support ships should require a crew to opperate 100 uu should be adequate as most players gain this in one turn these crews can also be used to pilot the ship when on loan to other players of a different race

well thats my 2 cents what do you think

i did'nt put much detail into my post because i like to just throw out an idea and let the rest of you play with it

but if you want i can go into some detail about how i think it would/should work


if your going to loan support ships it will take 5 turns (2.5hours) to arrive in your officers realm

if your loaning to an alliance member it would take 10 turns(5 hours)

why not make straight away?
if some one is getting massed they could just jump online and ask a friend to send them some support ships so in the middle of that massing out of no where some supportships arrive (not to realistic)
thats why i have put a time delay for support ships

support ships tech:
construct level 1 support ship:cost in naq 650,000,000 cost in untrained 7,000
construct level 2 support ship: cost in naq 750,000,000 cost in untrained 15,000
construct level 3 support ship:cost in naq 1,000,000,000 cost in untrained 25,000

the more support ships you want the higher the cost in naq and untrained (to make it alittle more unreachable we dont want people buying them the second they come out)

the final tech in this area will be the "upgrade support ships" tech which you can buy as many times as you'd like
explain:
if you do a massive upgarde to your mothership your support ships wont automaticly upgrade with it for this you need to buy

upgrade support ships:cost in naq 2,500,000,000 cost in untrained 30,000

you will need to buy that everytime you want to upgrade your support ships to include your new motherships stats/capacity


loaning: you can only loan 1 support ship to any player at a time.the amount of support ships you can be send from any number of players would/should be a max of 5 supportships like this

player 1 loans support ship to player 6 (player 1 can no longer support player 6 untill his first support ship returns)
player 2 supports player 6 with 1 ship
player 3 does the same
player 4 does the same
player 5 does the same

now ships take 5 turns to arrive if your the supporters officer and ten turns if your in the players alliance,support ships can only stay in your realm for a max of 5 turns(which means you'll have to plan it very well)

if the officer you loaned the ship to leaves or was removed from your command the supportships are called to return


support ships helping your mothership when there in your realm?

i dunno i was having another idea about about fighters

sorta the same idea as supportships but they cant leave your realm at they would have a total power of 20% of your mothership


anyway thats me gone into detail :-D

However, you mean that there is a maximum of 8... Player 6 most likely would have 3 support ships.

However, I don't like the UU cost for upgrading your support ships. I mean, by the time you're costing 30k uu to upgrade ONE, you will be spending 90k uu every major upgrade... And that keeps going up.

Why not instead make it so your miners are inactive for however long it takes to upgrade, and in that time your support ships are useless?

I also do not like the progressive cost of upgrading... If it DOES grow, it should be VERY minute, and if anyone agrees with me, we should only make the TIME increase, not the COST.

Also, just an idea, maybe each time you upgrade your support ships, it gives it an extra 0.25% of your mothership's power. So, at level 16 you would have an additonal 4% capacity, meaning if we decide the cap is 15%, at level 16 you would have 19%, and at level 40 you would have 25% (which should be the limit)

Also, just curious... Why do support ships cost more than motherships?? :D

Three support ships * 30k uu = 90k uu

Whether the price grows or not is irrelevant.. 30k uu per support ship is 30k uu per support ship!!

As for my comment about eight... I'm kind of confused how fighters are relevant...

Player 1 lends 1 support ship to player 6
Player 2 does as well
Player 3 does as well
Player 4 does as well
Player 5 does as well
Player 6 probably has 3 support ships already, plus the five he just got = 8

What does that have to do with fighters?? :?

And yeah, MS prices should really rise to around 1 bil naq... With the market and so much more naq in circulation now, (I used to farm people with 18 mil naq and thought it was alot :shock: ) I mean, its common sense. As for making the support ships get more expensive for 2 & 3, I don't like that idea... I mean, you have to upgrade them in order to get any bonusses anyway!

That sounds like an obligation lol, Admin has the ultimate vote on this anyway, it has good chances to be implemented since it's a decent idea that would make the game even better (compared to other suggestions I've seen so far) and since people seem to like it.

...lol I just said that to show that I really like this idea. And that I think that admin really has to add a new feature to sgw.
