ya the power plant was used to get a good amount to get city engines moving but that wasnt enuff to get them to hyperspace initially so they had do do 2 things b4 to muster enuff energy to enter hyperspace

nope, it was still powering the shield... but it might be a failsafe to keep shield up for a while... since they had about 24hrs left...

thats most likely the case and a convenint plot hindrance to keep the tension high in anticipation of next season

indeed.
it would make sense that the engines shut down to preserve power and time for the ocupants to get off the city. i believe that when they were taking off, they used up more power than they were expecting to use, because the city stalled out and wouldnt fly because the shield was still up.
so, if that hadnt happened, they probably would have had plenty of power, and, the beam probably wouldnt have damaged the city because they would have flown high enough and they would have activated the shield earlier and the beam would have hit the shield.
also, the beam hitting the shield while it was trying to close, could have drained alot of power. because rodney said that the shield took the brunt of the blow.

might be... but most likely they either:
a. manage to send a message out to friendly ships in order to get a new power source or such...
or
b. send a message out, and get help from some unknown source...

and? when i looked on gateworld....there was nothin. that would be pretty cool if they found a new ally. it wouldnt suprise me much, seein as how theyre fresh out of em in the pegasus.
