My last post and this one have come directly as responses to pms from STI, I feel that however they also belong in this trhead and this is where the discusssion is taking place for all to participate in.

His last point was that anyone could contact as many people as they know and get them to nominate and vote for them so that anyone could win any award.
And as to what the outcome of this should be.

While its true that someone can ask as many people to vote for them as they can reach, as long as those voters are players, their votes are valid, why they voted for who has no bearing on the vote. Campaigning is a part of every election in the world, minus Some mid east countries or communist ones where your forced to vote for teh only candidate.

However Not just anyone could go out and get the award, the nominees were just that, nominated by people AND the Awards panel. If someone doesnt deserve the award, they wouldn't be one of the choices in the polls that were up.

Any votes that were questionable, should have been reviewed by the Awards Panel and removed if they were deemed to be false. This didnt happen and thats why people are upset.

None off the nominees have changed, and all the choices remain as they were before the "scandel". I believe the correct answer is to return the voting to the way it was, allow all players to vote who want to regardless of forum status as long as they really playing, and admit that mistakes were made and assure the players that anything questionable will be properly investigated before a knee jerk reaction such as resetting votes occurs.

see this is where the problem is.

if let us say the famous Mr Head( hypothetical leader of any ingame alliance who asked his alliance to nom and vote him. I think we said darkbrotherhood) got nominated by said friends/officers/alliance members.

if he is not alowed to be put forward

you then use your very arguement to argue fro them to be allowed & i would have to agree with you. everyone is entittled to be included & voted on.

you see the problem, i can not see an answer not the jar of worms has been opened,

& yes I am very pleased that we can talk & debate with open minds.

My Reply-

Posted by Shaitan as official stance of The Awards Panel. Thats what is supposed to prevent abuse of the nominating and voting to allow someone who dosnt deserve to win. This is where the problem stemmed from, the failure of the Awards Panel, and is where I feel the chanegs need to be made. Not in the polls or any campaigning. The people are smart enough to know if someone BS'ed their way into the voting and the consensus was that anyone who was being voted on for an award deserved it.

And how is one supposed to remove these 'illicit' votes. phpbb is not that advanced.

Comparison of IP's to remove multies would work.

Although I am sure you mean the ones from players that have not posted much... and to that you are 100% correct.

That's true. I know of two who voted from the same IP, not on the same computer but used same IP - Public Computers. They are two very different players but are forced to log in using the same IP.

Well, voting was done via polls last year wasnt it ?

So will those votes be invaladated too ?

Theres fraud in any election, I mean whenever theres a national election in the US, lots of dead persons vote in chicago.

well... there could be a secret nomination board; perhaps by past winners who are still around and playing.

or perhaps privately contacting the top 50 alliance commanders ingame asking them to nominate... there could be a variety of ways, and then have a secret ballot as buck has suggested -- if we're to really take the awards this seriously.

But what about the mercanaries and those without allinaces ?

The old way was the most fair.
