Well yes of course they do, but its highly likely that a similar council existed in the milky way and its also a reasonable assumption that this council had existed for a long time there & was around before the creation of the stargates.

Come on ppl use what you know & extrapolate, the ancients hated time travel & had as lil as possible to do with it. Its unlikey then to think that given how much they were against time travel they would make gate networks that allowed that to happen.

not to mention that any series based soley on time travel would really suck as it would get repetative quickly & of ocurse you would end up changing things that cant or shouldnt be changed.

but the council in the milky way were the origanal council of ancients
but how do we know that they didnt become the council at atlantis we dont?
so and we also dont know who added the ninth chevron could have bein anyone (obviosly an anciet )but it could have bein doin in secret it never really explained why the gates were created the anciets did have ships

ships take longer to travel, and gates are more practical... but ships are still needed to place out gates...

the gate technology also predates the milky way settlement, after all, the ori too use(d) gates...
having the extra chevron added secretly is an logical impossibility... one cant add something as obvious as that in secret...

as most of the fans have wanted to see who the furlings are, i would love if they made the bad guys for this series to be the Furlings, that would be a good twist in my opinion

but that wouldnt make any sense it would totally screw with the origanal series of sg1 especislly in the episode "the fifth race"
when jack gets the repository of the ancients downlaoded into his brain
and goes to the asgard home planet of Auxana in the galaxy Orida
and the asgards cure jack and they tell him that there was one a great alliance of four races ,the furlings, knox, asgard, ancients
so i dont think the furlings would be an enemy

we suspect the furlings might be the new friend that appears in the 4th atlantis season... to fill the place the asgard held...

Except the 8th symbol has nothing to do with other races, it just adds extra distance!

Case in point, the address to atlantis is an 8 symbol address

the ancients weren't from the milky way. and i also think that the furlings will be in series 4 of atlantis

but what ever the ideas for the 9th chevron we'll find out in the new series :) but anyone of those reasons would work because its sci-fi you can do anything :smt023

Interesting theories everyone. I have one my self, I believe the 9th chevron may be a lock out feature. It would keep the gate effectively shut down on both sides. Think of it as a deadbolt without a keyhole on one side. Someone would have to be present at the gate to lock the gate. Then you say, well gates such as the one at Atlantis have a shield over them, since when are shields unable of destruction? I think there is a command one can issue to activate the 9th chevron and effectively "bury the gate". Kinda like leaving your phone off the hook, no one can contact you.

An other argument against time travel with the 9th chevron:

since the amount of symbols for the chevron are limited it would only allow us to go to a limited set of moments in the planet we go so, going through the gate and coming back to the "right time" would be imposible.

Personally, I would go with the galactic cluster idea.

btw: Are the furling going to show us their face in the new series or the movies? Any news about them?

Really? Furlings on SGA4? I was sortof assuming that was what teh new series would be on.
And as you mention it that is true. Ancients didnt really like time-travel.
As for what it does? I dont know..... Although going to another cluster wouldbe logical.... I think teh producers are going to come up with some wild claim to make it "Interesting".
Although i like the lockout feature. That would be neat.
