Here in my state smoking has been literally banned in bar's ,and resteraunts.
Although I dont smoke ,and dont plan on it. It still utterly pisses me off.
A state law shouldnt force The owners of establishments to ban smoking. If they WANT to they can go ahead ,and do it. But it should be the OWNERS choice. You dont like the fact he allows smoking? Dont go to him. Because already some people had banned it.
Also what do you expect going in a bar??? It is Smoking ,and drinking going on.....And i would rather have a guy smoking alongside me than a drunk who might drive off ,and wreck his car into me later.

smoking kills pure and simple

true there are people in there 80s who have smoked all their lives but there lucky
i bet if you looked harder you would find that many of them died of cancer and such (and before we knew smoking was dangerous)

True. it does lesen a persons lifetime... Although...... i am not going to disuiade people from doing it if they wish.
Even so. It should be THAT PERSONS choice of weather he smokes or not. he know's the risk's.
PLUS.... Sorry demon.
But i got to go with Kit-fox.
I DO agree that it lessens a person's lifetime POSSIBLY. I personally believe some people are not affected by smoking.
I would say a person would be more likely to have smoked earlier in teh century (Say 1950.) ,and still lived than if a person started now.
The entire society is less healthy on whole anyway. Plus i believe the food isnt quite as healthy either...
PLUS. They say marijuana has gotten more powerful in teh past decade. Couldnt tobbacco have gotten worse over 40 years?
My final thought on this.
Today the entire population is less healthy on average then 50 years ago. The body cannot take as much as it used to ,and is likely more suseptible to smoke than previously.

Lord_Grant you are considering outliers as the norm. and that isn't right.

Yes some people have smoked for a long time and had no or very little trouble, but they are outliers.

Smoking kills.

Doesn't mean I don't bum the occasional smoke, or that I want the government ordering bars and co. to be 'clean'... but please, you are kidding yourself if you don't believe the average smoker is breathing far to much filth to keep them healthy over their lifetime.

Common sense... Something I fear government interfearance reduces.

scientists have proven that the benefits of smoking out wiegh the downsides, smokers are on average 24.2% cooler than their non smoking counterparts. also smoking makes you taller.

I am assuming you meant OutLivers?
If so i do not. I am mearly saying that i believe in more older times (50's and prior) a person who smoked would have a higher chance of living longer than a person nowadays.

No, I mean outliers.

http://www.uvm.edu/~dhowell/gradstat/ps ... mage85.gif

In the above example outliers would exist at, but not exclusive to, 750 and 4250

a better example can be seen here(as circles above the 3rd quartile):
http://www.ymed.lu.se/staff/aax/doc/figure12.gif

I don;t know about the statement about living longer. there are a lot of confounding variables that come into play.
- increased env. concern and action
- reduction on pesticides and insecticides
- chemical composition of cigarettes may have changed
- etc.

Capo, please remeber to be respectful. I don't see anything respectful in what you wrote.
