I don't think it was ever open source.
KoC is the first game of "this" style that originally evolved from just the recruit link. Every game of this style since is a clone, although many have evolved much further than KoC.
I would venture to guess that massing was around long before SGW.
edit: and KoC is not owned by forum.

It was probably someone from First Realm, Taure.

My question is this:
Who invented massing?
That is, who was it that, rather than just using attacking to steal people's stuff, came up with the idea that you could take someone out by repeatedly attacking them?
Well, Your God (ME) created massing

it is obvious that we did it!!!
only a few weeks after we joined, we were massed, so obviously we invented it...

((assuming a link to other Kingdom Games is allowed, if not, could a mod please disable))
13. You may not advertise ANY game that is not a Kingdom Game Productions game.
These say they are (owned by) Kingdom Games:
Universe Quest:
http://www.universequest.com/
UniverseWars:
http://universewars.com/
Dragon War:
http://www.dragonwar.net/
WormholeWars:
http://www.wormholewars.com
Times of Conquest:

And a few other games.
On-topic: Here, the3rdlibra defines 'mass strikes', Wednesday March 16, 2005:
the3rdlibra wrote:When i co-ordinate "mass" strikes i always order "rush tactics" basically small 1 turn attacks, again and again to weaken a player's defence. Of course it does not always work you have to take into consideration alot of (sort of) "real life" factors, like how far away is your enemy to you, what type of defences does he have? Does he have a lot of untrained military? (this tends to have an effect on death toll, but it's pure conjecture, i have no proof). Basically, i believe that you have experienced a good tactic for crippling your enemy, one i take great advantage of myself. It's no use if you are simply after Naquada, but if you wish to take someone's defense down from 1 million to 500k with 15 turns,
this is the way to do it

That wormhole wars link...that looks exactly like SGW...
Main the Second?

More like SGW "the Non-functional" Main. Tried it beyond looking at the page?
There's certain clues to suggest that several other games, other than these listed, have a link to SGW. However, these games do not claim affiliation with Kingdom Games Ltd. and are as such not 'advertisable' on these forums. I don't think it's prudent to even mention them more precise than this.
On-topic: Maybe "Main the Second" doesn't have massing?

(lame abridgeing)
Anyone planned a mass strike in the Purgatory Realm yet? It is, as the3rdlibra says, 'very' much more challenging. I just *love* how basically he describes massing.

Thank you..... although if I'm right with who you are i never thought i would say that :s
I believe the KoC "clone" came about when someone basicly copy+pasted the Html from the front end of a old version of KoC, and then put (bad) php code to it.
And when i say bad... i mean in need of a rewrite bad.
