@ Taure:

How do you manage to spy unsuccessfully  ?
I'll understand not spying if you can't see both army size and naq on the stats, in any other case spying unsuccessfully is rather noob-ish... LOL. Beaten by Lord Apollo on that comment  .

Oh, I spy. Most of the times (and certainly when I'm going for naq) - only when I'm going through my raid list I forgo spying now and again.

By having a lower level and/or less spys trained than the other guy. As for loss of units, got confused with sabbing. It's been months since I last spied someone, what can I say? I forgot that you didn't lose spies if you recon'd someone who was better than you.

Meh, I don't farm anyway. Raiding is so much more profitable, and the targets have 0 defence.

If I were to farm though, I still wouldn't spy. The troops lost from a 1 turn attack would be worth the time saved.

I only spy before massing someone, and even then, only sometimes :)

I don't really farm for naq, so most of my targets tend to 0 defense, and I prefer faster raiding then spying each time to see what they have out, ect.

If I was to start farming for naq though, I would spy beforehand...

For naq - no. I make a one turn hit. For planets - yes. Gotta see which one is the best!

Lol'in Adam, most chucklesome.

Recon is extremely simple and extremely useful, so yes, I spy. With my little eye.

As his CO, I can confirm that... he's actually quite KGB-ish.

As for me... no. I don't spy... because I hardly ever see the need to attack.
If necessary, I have level 25 and a mil available troops for that. Still pretty much close to nothing... but more than just nothing.

Not to mention that being the Direktor of KGB, one has their options...

The reason? I'll explain it here.

Suppose I come across a person who I want to take naq off. There is the chance that they are stronger than me, or that they are not.

If I attack and they are weaker than me, I get the naq. If they are weaker than me and I spy, I still get the naq, but at the cost of a covert turn.

If they are stronger than me, then I'll lose more units through an unsuccessful spy than I would have if I had simply attacked and failed.

In both situations, spying leads to a higher cost for me. Therefore, I don't spy. Hitting them with 1 turn is so much easier, and cost effective.
Also, you will know if you will fail/might fail a spy if you can't see both their army size and naq.... If you can only see one, you might fail. If you can't see both, your more than likely going to fail... If you can see both, you won't fail if you send in ALL of your agents.

so you have 0% chance of failing if you see both and send all your agents?

Yeah, basically, unless of course they get there ascended bonus (if that works for spy (can't remember).

During my farming

The past week or so
I just attack anyone who meets my 'criteria' as many of you have found out

If i fail no big deal my loss's are very little

I do spy the occasional person i like the look of the naq and think the def might be bigger.

But i spy all the time even if its just to check friends, old enemy's (haven't forgotten about my old grudges ;) )
Im usually very low on covert turns
