you need to attack more then just once..to do enough damage to deplete their life force and their reserves..

Then you need to boost your stats or find easier targets

Descension is
hard if nigh impossible against equal and skilled accounts, believe me, I know

- even against n00bs your still looking at a huge investment in turns, and with the rank mod, not a little pain... at best it still costs an inordinate amount of time and AT.
The longest siege against an account I did was a week... an astounding cost in resources.

Xeno is right. Descension isn't a task to undertake casually. This descension cost me 99 turns per attempt and I think I had to hit him 8? 10? times, not counting massing down his defense. Additionally, I lost life force on every hit that I wasn't able to use for other purposes.
If you really want to get some practice descending someone in ascension, find a guy called "S T I" and give him a go.

Well hell, if he's maxed out you can always give Mojo Rising, Sinister, or maybe even Hensenshi a go.

Any effect other than the badge of dishonor? Loss of planets maybe? WHat about the main account tied to the ascended account?

The main account loses bonus for the duration of the descention.
The ascended account loses whatever it would have made where you able to access it... so an indirect loss.
The only physical damage inflicted by ascended attacks are on the life force, and defense planets of the target. If you really want to do a number, it's best to smash their account with massing/assassinating/etc. right before the final ascended assault - but no there is no "Lose X% of ascended account upon descension." just whatever defense planets happened to get in the way of the life-force blasts and that is a tiny figure (relatively).
