Maybe we could have a system more like idol? The judges vote and the public votes and it's a combined desision?

hmmm..yes...but wouldnt that be ever more biased? lol..cos think of how many people are in certain alliances.. unless the public vote counted as one..but like I said..its done by points not votes..ill have a think about it..and see..we might just end up with a simple vote..rather then points..but then that takes out penalties and other things..

Although I love the idea, I'm afraid we may be walking into a minefield.

There may be a good number of us who can maintain an intelligent debate but there are also many who will resort to petty arguments, insults and flaming, perhaps we could make it a Usergroup area that way we have some control over who can or cant post there

the best way to have it, if it is to be a separate section, is one where all can read, but not all can post... maybe have a usergroup that people ask to join, if they want to join the debate....

having the section hidden is not that good idea...

lol come on guys I suggested all these. A forum viewable by the general community, but postable in by group members only.. Punishing pettyness and insults. Minimizing post's so people cant be drawn out into one long argument.

As for the points and everything. WE NEED points..otherwise it takes conduct out of the entire debating system. As you cant penalize people for making mistakes, insulting or other things. So points have to stay unfortunately.

The viewers though have another option before them. In general terms, during a debate, there is a point at which, a member of the audience can stand, placing a piece of paper ontop of their head, and shout out, point of information. This can be a rhetorical question, a general question or fact to hinder or help the person during the debate. The only problem with THAT is that I think the topic could become far to messy. So im doubtful it would be a good idea to include that.

i'm not in any alliances in game and i don't know anyone on a personal level so would be happy to be a judge if needed. I did debating in high school too... although that was some time ago now

was indeed just an example. I just thought of some of the most famous for in-game antics and those who I knew were good at debating and shoved them together into two teams of four.

I think that we should be pragmatic and just start and see what works and what does not as far as the format goes

well when the 1st november comes round we'll have to see, because both admins made it clear enough they were not to fussed as to make it at this time. So we'll have to see what freespirit takes on it.
