thank you, im writing properly again..silly americans, aussie's, kiwi's and other places daring to corrupt the one true noble and great language there is.
Excuse me? We just took out some extraneous letters, like the "u" in favour and colour. What's up with that anyway? As for English being the one true noble and great language, I think that something I once saw on a t-shirt sums it up perfectly: "English doesn't borrow from other languages; it follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over the head, and goes through their pockets for loose change."
in the most nobler way possible. Still better then silly americans, kiwi's and other corrupting English, at least we won our language in some form of fight..you just knock a few letters out, emphasizing the laziness in your cultures, cos you had the British empire holding your hands whilst you grew up.
ouch.... lol. Im kidding man, my original comment was, racist in view, but I really dont mean anything by it. Im British, proud of the language we have (most languages have been thieved in some way) and well, I actually dont like the corrupt versions. (that bit wasnt a joke..)
and besides, queen's english is the only remaining true and noble language..the originals were Latin and ancient greek, though both are still spoken, they are not the same, nor used as often.
Oh yeah you held our hands, then we cut them off and kicked your asses
and just to show there were no hard feelings we came to your aid in WW2 (and before you say it - 4 years prior to the treaty is not 'the end'. that comeback is from WW1)

Spacey, I don't know if England sent anything back to America besides cash (or if there were other countries, such as Canada involved in similar activites), but the US began to sell the British goods at lower prices under the Lend Lease Act, mainly supplies, with one specific mention being the M3 Shermans (I think that's the right number).
Personally, I'd be interested if you knew of any other such sales/trading/policies. I'm always interested in knowing more about WWII.

Re: Okay, dammit, not funny anymore...
Spacey, what was Britain selling to the US? Since the US was sending Britain materiel it can't have been that (why would they buy what they already have?), and I can't imagine SELLING a potential ally intelligence. As far as I have researched and learned Britain was basically in "all-out/total" war mode since the fall of Poland so all of its supplies would go into its own war effort (like winning the battle of britain).

I didn't specifically say a country. I was speaking more to during the war and movement of supplies amongst troops on the battlefield (medicine, assisting companies in battle, etc.

I said sent not sell, and you will all notice that the context that I am speaking is during the war.
Troops from Canada, Britain, Belgium, France, Canada, etc. helped each other during the war. Are you lot suggesting that one country did all the 'saving' and the others did all the 'being rescued'?
The edit was probably a little too abstract. Sorry for any confusion.

Perhaps this is based on perspective. The US did a lot during the war, but every country had an important and irreplaceable part. I suggest, and what I was trying to get at, is that the possibility exists that had the allies not been what they were and done what they did, the outcome of the war would have been much different.

Re: Okay, dammit, not funny anymore...
Excellent clarification Spacey. we did share supplies while we fought together. we make excellent allies
and as to the 'US saved the day thing', it is a matter of perspective. For us (Americans) all Britain,France and their colonial troops did was hold the line (and occasionally advance a short distance with heavy casualties). When we came in our forces tipped the balance and ended what we basically saw as a stalemate inside of a year.
at least, that's how we were taught it in history class
