Overall, ppt is a *bad thing (*tm) - purely personal opinion of course. I don't mind visiting perg occasionally but I wouldn't be caught dead hiding behind the ppt...
Yet is seems a lot more popular than it is unpopular...
So... I do like the idea of an on/off button, but coupled with a drastic chance of how ppt works...
Sell a *maximum* of 24 hours a week's ppt and an on/off button. So even if you're doing the raid, mass, hide, raid, mass, hide thing, it won't be long before your ppt runs out and the payback game begins...
At least make people *think* for a bit and use some strategy when it comes to ppt, without making it useless for people who need a day off from time to time...

Oh, and if you're at war - ppt doesn't protect you when you're attacked by anyone your status is war<->war with. Be at war OR cowering behind the ppt, not both.
