There are four things wrong with the game

1. The impossibility to hold your own against others (which falls prey to the inability to catch up to a place where you can hold your own). NG was released to bolster new people, should be interesting to see if it works.

2. We have been doing the same thing for 7 years now, there have been minor additions that spice things up a little, planets, this new gnr market etc. but it's so spaced out that it seems more of a fix than anything. Nothing really substantial has been made to add a new aspect to sgw, everything that has been created underpins the war-play, there is nothing else to do, you build to war.

3. This thing we have been doing for 7 years now hasn't even really reached a decent standard, wars are subject to ignorant/stubborn leaders and so they tend to continue forever even if the parties involved are both rooted and going no where. The blood realm was introduced which was a good idea but it was executed poorly. The forum still hasn't been tethered to the game.

4. Tactics have been destroyed, something a turn/text based game requires. Some people still need to use them just to stay afloat in battles, but otherwise covert levels and MS blow them out of the water.

Without the exclusive star gate theme we need a new foundation.

Hardly.
This game could easily roll theme less if it wanted to, the sg theme just hooked in another community.
I for one didnt play for the sg theme anyway.
Games rarely can be left alone, they ALWAYS need changing and they ALWAYS need new things added, to keep players busy anyway. Just look out WoW and RS, they add a crap ton of quests every so often, add many many new features every month, and usually find some sort of celebration, like Christmas or Easter, to provide a means for a new experience (which is time limited).

Everything needs a foundation for sucess. Those other games have theirs.

Those other games don't have a show based theme and they do fine, they're based off of an age years and years ago, sgw is based on the space age.

That's my point, ours was taken when the stargate race was exchanged for custom ones.

Yes but we don't need another one.

i don´t like the custom races .... adrifts from the actual "Stargate"-Theme immensly and makes the name "gatewars" obsolete because it is far less linked to it as it was. I personally started playing because i liked the Stargate-touch to it... now it´s just another Space-MMORPG ... so it is with this "House"-thingy ...

Yeah, unfortunately with MGM threatening legal action that was Jason's solution.

Shame the option of split profit wasn't considered in the talk about the needing to remove the copyright material. If Admin had offered 10% of all profits made go to MGM, perhaps we could have kept the theme.

But I think the main problem they had with it, was that they were releasing a similar titled game, and didn't want any advertising they did, to draw people to this game instead. All though again, if the profit agreement was in place, they would have still made money from it.

I've actually contacted one of their departments some months ago, it was clipstill I believe, which holds the rights for mgms stargate franchise for images and material related to the series.

If it is as you say, then what the harm in letting a VERY small (comparatively) use some of your names, and in the process, essentially promote your products.

i remember mgm was creating a multiplayer stargate game which failed twice , maybe they jsut did not want the theme to be used that all.

That would be what I would think. Leave them the option to make a game if they wanted to

I don't think there is anything wrong with the game. Not everyone can be #1, some people play just to play. Who cares if someone is better?
