actually in ireland the word "scum" is one of the worst possible words to label someone by. its used against druggies, rapists, paedophiles, etc. Loads of people of different countries/cultures have different "meanings" to words, so i would not be so quick to call someone pathetic for reacting differently to a word you might not think so much of.
