Yes, you can have different chemical make up , just like bi pola and other diseases. However, if you say that being gay is a chemical imbalance. Then your saying is a disease. And It needs to be treated.
Its to do with the environment, stating that the case of the twin, well I think something weird happened at the birth to one of them.
Overall, it is still a choice. Unless it is more like depression. Then it is a disease and it needs to be treated and treated before it actually gets a hold on the person.
meh, i'm not trying to be antagonistic or disrespectful in any way shape or form BUT...
that entire post is BS
just because gays/killers brains dont work the same doesn't mean that we straight non-killer type people weren't dropped on our heads and they were.
there is a hell of ALLOT of evidence which points to chemical imbalance in certain parts of the brain...and just for the record mate, the brain isn't a machine gone wrong cuz of a lack of oil changes. as we all know (some of us, painfully), when the brain or the body suffers from problems, they are not always fixable no matter the severity of the problem.
I didn't disregard that evidence of chemical imbalance. I said there could be a chemical imbalance. Thus, in your view, it would needed to be treated. For the record the brain, in aspects, is a machine. And it gets defected with the wrong "oil". at the end of the day mate, your wrong, as much as i would like to say a gay is gay because he's gay in nature and does have a choice whether they know it or not...i cant say it because i know there brains don't work the same, its nothing to do with either upbringing or surroundings, if it was, a hell of allot more of us would be gay!
It has been proven, with research and studies, that violent upbringing leads to of a greater risk of being violent. It goes the same with being gay. If a child is exposed to gays and is encouraged to be gay, and said being gay isn't wrong and is being endorsed, the chances will be higher to become gay for that child.
The "brain" doesnt work the same, to a degree, yes. hence the Chemical imbalanced, then it is up to us to fix that imbalance.
think about that...how many boys out there who have sister/s but no brothers but turn out fine?
That doesnt show anything of environment. that last is only an example and not the be all and end all of an argument.
Aside that for some people being gay is a chemical imbalance, it is a choice. Just like clinical depression, yes you may not be in control of the condition, but if it gets treated, you can choose to be not to be depressed. ( I know this because I've known too many people suffering from clinical depression, also I've known homosexuals who have turned straight, however they didn't suffer from the clinical gay but they choose to be straight in the end.

you have no respect for science. you show it with almost every post. you saying something isnt proven by science actually gives a theory more credibility.
I give science the respect it deserves. For I do pride myself in being a scientist.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7490997.stmthe church of ireland would allow homosexual
unions if sexuality was proven to be predetermined. they clearly draw a line between same sex unions and marriage. that seems quite reasonable, coming from a christian church.

@sandman:
please explain to me and to the rest of us, if we except that being gay is a chemical imbalance or a defect in the brain of some sort-how you would fix it?
i think the many pharmaceutical company's around the world will pay handsomely for your miracle pill, thus making you a very rich man!
i understand that environment plays a key role in some people being gay (which is why i so vehemently and absolutely appose gay marriage and worse, gay couples being allowed to either adopt, foster or in anyway be allowed to raise children), but what if the environment is by all means and respects-normal?

they can have an officially recognized union but NOT marriage!!!!!!!!!
if any church or body allows gay marriages to take place, i will, as a "straight" man feel DEEPLY offended that gays will be allowed to take vows as i did when i was married.

Re correct the chemicals in the brain. Simple.
i think the many pharmaceutical company's around the world will pay handsomely for your miracle pill, thus making you a very rich man!
Thank God I'm not interested in money.

There is no "normal" environment, but by normal I assume a situation that is not bias in anyway. It all comes to choice. Simply put.

1 that doesn't answer my question, and 2 we have already stated that an imbalance may not give a person the luxury of "choice".
1. You treat them or "cure" them so to say. 2. Then they have choice.

By fixing the chemical imbalance

thats stating the obvious mate, common you can do better than that...
how do you fix them, what procedure/pill do you use which would allow them a choice of preferred sexual orientation?

Depends on the severity of the case.
More Or less, It would be a drug.

sigh, your side stepping the question...
since there is no drug that can fix the imbalance, then we HAVE and MUST accept that they have no choice...i wish ther was a drug that could "fix" them.

There is no such thing as choice. Choice is an illusion, a day dream created by man to help prove the existence of god in our infancy.
Cause - effect, baby....

"Reality is merely an illusion,
albeit a very persistent one."
Albert Einstein
"Are we accustomed to superposition of states or is it completely strange to us? Surprisingly, superposition can happen in our mind as well. We are very familiar with superposition of states. In different mind activities such as predicting upcoming events, we imagine different states of proceedings in order to compare and evaluate. When we are planning to make a decision, we picture different mode of possibilities. When we make our decision materializes and the outcome will be just one state.
As a matter of fact, the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics as first introduced by Neils Bohr implies that superposition of states is a mathematical formalism and exists in the mind of observer. Physical world is the reduced state of the superposition that exists in our mind. So we reduce the super position to one possibility and somehow project it into physical world. See how all of these fall together as different pieces of the same puzzle.
Singularity as an informational domain can contain a superposition of states just like our consciousness, which can hold such a superposition. When the particle enters the objective space-time, it is reduced to one state and becomes observable."
