Yes, these need to be changed. I think the best option would be to make them kill like 3% or so of attack/defense per, and increase the losses. There's no need to go overboard on changes though, and this will put it about on par with every other method of massing right now.

If they need changing then the changed only need to be minor! Most of you clearly dont have enough assassins for your defence, i know i dont! I have 80mil massed upholders so thats 400mil planets! Guess how many assassins i`ve got? 400mil! I would say that i had enough assassins but i dont because i also have a bit of a strike but heres the best part! The reason i know you guys dont have anywhere near enough assassins is because my defence is ranked around 120 where my assassination stat is ranked around 25
I`ll let you figure out what that means
If you were to change them, then maybe increase the number of them that dies to maybe 5 or 6% but what u guys are suggesting isnt needed

so how much of your total planets do you have trained which is utterly destroyable?
say you have 400mill covert thats 1.2 bill on your 3 stats alone... that can utterly be destroyed but many people can train 800mill assassins and take out your 400mill + defence/strike planets and lose perhaps 100-200mill in planets in doing so...

You honestly think i`m going to train up 400mil planets into covert? U seen how cheap weaps are atm?

i like this idea,
i had 500mil assasins level 1000 and got owned, they could have sent 2.5bil assasins at me and still i would have lost more than them, and at the time i didnt have a defence really most of these losses are from my strike. If i had a defence he probaly could of sent 5bil assasins and lost less

so at the min you cant really defend against destroy miltary unless u have your entire army as assasins

Since the cost of levels goes up exponentially, I think that the power that they provide to the various stats should go up moreso than it does. Someone who has level 1000 assassin and 10 million assassins has 3.36 times more assassin power than someone with level 500 assassin and 10 million assassins. If the level 500 assassin person is using rank mods, this goes down to 2.6 times the power. So the level 500 assassin will only have to train up 16 million more assassins to equal the power of the level 1000 assassin. Anything more than that is just gravy. And, with incomes the way they are now, training up 500 million assassins is child's play.
If you change the formula for calculating assassin power to make it to the fourth power instead of just squaring it, then the level 1000 assassin has 11.2 times the power of the level 500 assassin and, even if they are using the max rank mod, it is still 8.7 times the power of the level 500 assassin.
Also, if you require levels to be balanced (ie. within 100 of each other) then that would help as well. You wouldn't have people with 1150 strike enhancements and 600 defense enhancements. And I am not saying that ALL levels need to be within 100 of each other. But for the 4 military stats (assassin, covert, defense, and attack), yes they should be relatively close.
I also agree with assassins and spies being untrainable for at least 48 hours after being used. This will do two things: it will make the assassin vulnerable to counter attack. And it will prevent people from training assassins to mass a defense and then untraining them to use elsewhere.
Also, rank mod should not be factored in as to whether or not the assassins are "discovered". So if the rank mod is what is letting the assassins succeed where they otherwise would have failed, detection of the assassin is automatic. And detection should be automatic regardless after 5 or more assassinations. I have one of the highest assassin powers in the game and I have no problems with people knowing that it was me who assassinated them.

When i got wiped by a sniper who put his entire realm into assasins, my lowest stat was CS at 29, every other stat was rank 25 or less. I had more planets in def, then he had in his entire realm.
Now explain to me how to defend that?

heres my take (after reading through everyone's suggestions)
I like the idea of levels counting more
Losses should be much less (say no more than 3% of total army size?)
Every 5-6 hits you should be able to see who is hitting you. Explanation: think about it-they are losing assassins. If you are killing assassins-certainly within a few hits your armies would be able to capture a planets population, and torture, err, convince them, to reveal who sent them. Now this factor should be somewhat randomyou should see who sent 2 out of every 14 assassin hits-but you could see hit 1&2, or 5&14, you and your attacker-will never know which hit will have a planet who's population can be made to talk... That would make it more realistic-and better because you can then know who to visit-most of the time.

I have to say I also like this idea...

I also think the chance to find out who assasinated you should be 10% chance to find out who... every 100 levels above the defenders assassin level should reduce this by 1% (to a minimum of 5% chance to discovery your would be attacker)
so attackers assassin lvl of 600
defenders ass. lvl of 400
would mean the defender has an 8% chance of discovering the attacker (this as with all %'s could happen on the first hit, everytime or not at all just like ascended blessing on main)

I think a 5%-10% chance of finding out would be good. I might put it a bit higher though-say 5%-20%. Varying by difference in levels as was said. this works just as well as my suggestion.

Well i`ve also had my whole account wiped by a sniper account but whether assassins are nerfed or not it will happen again
agreed assassins could do with a little tweaking as they are so much stronger and more effective than a traditional mass, like maybe increase the AT cost to 20 or something but to half there kill rate isnt needed
But for your situation Lore the main problem is that sniper accounts are unstoppable, make deascension possible and your problem will be solved right there, well untill the next one comes along that is

I just cant see how you think losing 95% of your def AND 95% of your strike in 30 hits is completely ok with you????
I mean they are taking out 2 stats at once. With little to no losses and no restrictions. If all your military groups were even(Att, Def, Cov, Ass) that means they would kill 1/2 your army and decimate 1/2 your stats? And your good with that????? IDK to each his own I guess?
Why do we even have weapons? they are useless as long as assasinate is here.

I don't really like any of the options, it changes the game play too much. I have made another suggestion related to this (well i read this after lol), which means you will be able to recover at a nice pace after random assassinations.
