We believe we may only find strength within our own race and species. We feast on the flesh of our offspring too become stronger. Why would you question that, which has sustained the ever-present threat level that our race possesses?

I believe the asgards and ancients don't understand the goa'uld sacrificing their offspring because they don't understand what it's like to have hundreds of them. Or perhaps it's the fact that the asgard cannot reproduce and that the ancients have chosen ascension instead.
