And unlike the Anciants, when the Tauri ascend we do not consider unascended people as bugs, and leave them to be killed by the Goa'uld, Ori, Wraith, Replicators, and other nasty things.

As do I... Could it be that when the Goa'uld supposedly killed the Tollan, they did not infact die, but ascended instead and that is why they are an Ascended race? I think that very well may be.
