Im a voulunteer for the CFA, and although i was plastered under the a/c at the pub due to our home having no power or phone lines during the actual weekend they sparked up, in the last few days i have seen countless bodies doing mop up... the things ive seen in the last week i wish no person would have to see in their lives... things burnt into my mind that keep me awake at night, people commiting suicide because they have lost everything.
there is only so much that the news and net will show you, the sheer truth of the subject tip toed around by everyone, hoping that that the harsh undercore of what has happened will just vanish
I hope you're ok mate. It must be absolute hell out there finding all those bodies, and to think some will never be found. Dust in the wind. Utterly depressing. Each and every one of your CFA volunteers deserves a medal for what you've done over the past week. You guys don't even get paid for it! Risking your lives, having to witness horrible things again and again and for very little in return.
I salute you, you have the love of the nation and the pride of all Victorians. You're a bloody hero.

Sympathies Australia. This is very sad news, I hope they catch the people who did this. Doing something like that is despicable.

hey guys (and gals)
im an aussie from sydney and just wanted to mention the death tol has gotten even higher cant remeber the exact figure but im fairly sure it got above 200
i think the worst part is not only that so many lost their lives but some people lit these and didnt even know they did - they say only 13% were lit by arson and of that most was lit by (i wish i could use colourful language) people throw ciggarette buns out the window of the car
WORSE YET: one of the major nationwide tv stations had an appeal that raise alot of money for this cause and while the show was going some (colourful word) was litting ANOTHER fire..... how can people do that
but now it appears as if the extreme rain has moved south as we in sydney have been poured on for at least a week now so the last of the fires (i heard there was stil 13 fires burning in vic) should be out soon
so anyone who lost someone my prays are with you! and to all the CFA men and women *salute* you guys are amazing!
also the floods up in the north of Oz have resulted in more houses gone but less deaths (from drownings) so not to over shadow the fires but there are apperantly crocs swimming round inside peoples homes and the suburban streets (eating some people) so also all the people displaced or hurt by the flooding. Australia support you guys too!

holy crap tees isn't kidding about the heat...
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=36900the hottest i think its ever been in indiana is about 51C..... and holy crap i thought that was hot.... i have no idea how you handle that kind of heat.... and the utter lack of rain....wow.... i had no idea it was that bad..... my thoughts are with the aussies affected by the recent fires, for those whom have died we shall mourn your loss and for those that have survived i have only the best of wishes for you.... in that tomorrow is another day (hopefully not as hot)

the only place i would expect to hear the words "crocs swimming round inside peoples homes" ..... its bad enough that peoples homes are getting flooded out but crocs taking up residence in them is just wrong......

Last i heard was 201, the 1 being a fireman (David Balfour) having a tree falling on top of him fighting a fire (i believe?) =[ the figure is still expected to rise, but only a little, which is great since they were at one stage expecting 300 + deaths
Also last i heard only 4 fires left in the country that are left out of control
and yea, i'm surprised the floods up north have gotten so little attention since the bushfires, lately theres been more though so thats good
