We're not talking about god.. we're talking about something that has been proven -_-
Just because governments have been led to believe that smoking is harmful to everyone everywhere does not make it true.. The only way it would be harmful is if someone blew the smoke straight into your mouth and you breathed it in. Sitting in traffic is more harmful than "second hand smoke".

What a bleak prospect.

Whilst I'm fully aware of the health risks associated with smoking, not to mention the financial burden, I must confess that I'm in no hurry to give up. Part of me thinks that smoking suits me, and another part is thankful for a ready made excuse to extradite myself from the heat and noise of the 'clubs' to which my friends so readily drag me.

I keep telling myself that I'll give up after college. Perhaps I will. Right now I think I still labour under the delusion, as indeed do a lot of young people, that I'm invincible. Perhaps when I've got a nice deep cough, or I start to ache and wheeze after football training, I'll take it more seriously. Being a youthful idiot is as good an excuse as any, though.

used to smoke but since I've been roofing and doing electric work i picked up chewing an even nastier habit than mordacks but it makes my boss happy when i get done what he needs.
xXxsephirothxXx wrote:I never said that they said "I cant quit" it is obvious that anyone can.. the difficulty of doing so on the other hand is a different story..

put it this way though. heroin is an illegal drug and very expensive. smoking tobacco and chewing are hard addictions to break because they are legal cheap in my state and I'm of age. its not that you cant quit its the fact that when your feeling a craving you go and buy it at the store and it's just that easy. tobacco is the hardest substance to quit and it's a proven fact, especially if you have been around it your whole life and if you've been using it for a long time.

been doing this stuff since i started busting my but at work when i turned 16

you do know that smoking pure tobacco that has come out of the ground is like sitting around a campfire. the additives they put in them require the filter be there and even then the filter on most cigs has a GOVERNMENT issued nicotine pill that hooks you on it to pay taxes. but its bad for you. if it was so bad then they should make it illegal. oo wait i forgot. the US government uses the tax on cigs to keep our national debt where its at. without cigs our national debt would be up in the 40 trils ppl. use your heads someone has to smoke to keep the economy and the government going.
also for those whole believe in second hand smoke let me ask you something. if it is that bad then how comes when someone is smoking cannabis near you, you do not get as high as they do but may feel a CONTACT buzz???

of all the ppl who said they didn't smoke please post your age and also post how old you have to be to purchase any tobacco products where ever you live. this may solve some answers to me as there are alot of ppl out there who've never had to bleed to get their job done.
Im 18 and you have to be 18 in the U.S.

srry for the long post but this is in fact a very interesting and controversial topic due to the fact of how dangerous it is to risk getting cancer for a buzz and how you can risk getting cancer from driving in the city to work everyday.

I am 19, I never smoked, my parents smoke (yes I admit they tried not to smoke close to me..), my cousins smoke, and I knew people at school smoking since 12 or 13. As for what age needed to buy it, how the hell could I know?
I never wanted to smoke, so I don't give a damn of the legal age! :-D

Yeah, I know it's the crap they put in thats the real addiction.
I'm 22 and started smoking around 15/16 when I started smoking weed. Legal age here to smoke is 18 but you could go into certain shops and buy cigarettes from age 15
My mother smokes and smoked for a long time. My dad used to smoke but gave up. My sister smokes. Most of my extended family smokes but only about 3 out of 10 close friends smoke.
I often get crap about smelling of smoke from most of my friends.

I want to stop smoking before I go back to college but I know going back will more than likely make me go back on them.

well its very easy lol. to quit you have to get away from anything stressful and learn to control you emotions better. no one said anything bout my chew. i wonder why? is it really not a safe alternative or could it actually be the safest use of nicotine that isnt concentrated

Im 19, and the age to buy is 18.

Legal age doesnt really have much to do with it I find. Such as with alcohol. Sure smokes are probably harder to get underage than alcohol, but that doesnt mean you cant get them.

Also, quick question. which causes more health problems? Smoking or chewing?

lets see, I drink copious amounts of 40%+ alcohol things (generally as a coping mechanism), I eat much junk food, have a body fat% around the 26 mark (a dam sight better than it used to be, and getting better!), I can safely say I fear just about nothing and I have no problem speaking my mind to anyone, even the 9ft tall american football players there are in the world.

So yeah... smoking and drug taking are about the only things I dont do that apparently is very bad for you! I am very serious about the latter thing though... my best mate at uni took some Gary's, have barely spoken to him since, and those times were out of necessity because I work in a group with him.
I Have no time for people who cross that line...a try becomes an addiction, and that makes them dangerous, no matter who they are (hell I would disown my own little sister, my brothers... my mother) or how powerful they think their will may be.

Smoking, is...neither here or there for me with smoking, you do or you dont. Many a time I have accompanied a friend outside to chat with them as they sucked the white stick of death.

I am 19, and four months away from the big 2-0. Legal age is....16 I think. Cannot remember. All I know in my home town the usual age to start smoking is somewhere between 5 and 10, and drinking 11 and 14. Few escape the peer pressure (pathetic...) and fewer still have the will power to quit... (fair enough).

My grandad, wisest greatest person I know... smokes, his only downfall really. Has smoked since he was 12 (is now 66, health of a 90yo though..) he started because he was forced to work for his dad, now in those days of course not the same sets of laws etc etc, so the only way he could actually get a break from work, during a 12 hour day (I literally mean a break to eat or whatever, otherwise it was if he was lucky) was to smoke. So my grandad started.

If you died of smoking, could you consider that suicide? I wonder.

Tricky concept really. Prove the smoking directly caused the problem that lead to the death. House fire is easier than lung cancer or heart disease etc etc...

I would say yes, personally... but I am sure many other people would wail out in cries of 'no' because of some sorry sack nonsense reasons...

"I cant quit, it is too hard..." absolutely stupid.
