what do you base that conclusion on...experience, scientific expertise, a hunch, or just plane old guess work???


personally, i believe if we can think of it then it can be done, as evidenced by historical fact.

so if I think I can turn my pencil into a 10lb block of gold I can?

here is a technicality but i believe we are time travelers. or we live in a dimension that is outside the 3rd one. this so called 4th dimension is only experienced by the living. it is merely our minds that travel on this line of time that we are speaking of.
we time travel everytime we think of our memories and we think of our dreams.
don't be haten. i didn't really want to post the fallacies of time travel just merely some mumbo jumbo that might catch someones mind into saying something worth saying.

but time travel is (theoretically) impossible
i havent read all the posts here so someone may have already mentioned this
but:

travelling faster than the speed of light (or even at the speed of light) is impossible
this is because of that famous equation by Albert Einstein
e = mc^2

and the lesser known equation (also by Einstein)
ml=mv(sqrt[1-(v^2/c^2)])

pretty much that means that as you travel faster and faster, your mass will increase
so if we use e = mc^2, we will need an excessive amount of energy to reach the speed of light, as we have an excessively high mass.
also, its impossible to travel faster than light as we cant get the sqrt of a negative number.

2 things from that
1) The closer you get to the speed of light, the closer your mass comes to infinite. Thus, the closer you get to the speed of light, in order to maintain that speed, or accelerate, you'd eventually need a infinite power source to do it.
2) I solved a way for us to travel FASTER then light, but in order to use the equation, you would need to never reach the speed of light, which, as we all know is impossible. But if we COULD instantly accelerate to a speed, or from one to another, then my formula would in fact allow us to travel fast than light

It is best to assume that anything you can imagine will eventually be possible, given enough time & effort.

Humans with wings? This is pretty much impossible, since we are to heavy for the concept of wings to work (works for birds, cause their bones are hollow)

With enough knowledge you never know what could happen either with biological (genetic) engineering or a fusion or bio & mechanical parts. Just becuase we cant do it now doesnt mean it will remain impossible for all of time.

The fact is, our bodies are to heavy for any from of feasible wings.
Think about it this way. Lets say a eagle has a body mass of 2kg, and a wing span of 1m. If you weigh 60kgs, then you need a wing span of 30 meters.

This was a simple example showing why humans with wings is an impracticality. Since you would first need a wing that can provide enough thrust for itself, then whatever additional thrust, would need to be multiplied to support a human body, thus making the wings larger and larger.

So you saying conclusively that for all of time we'll never learn how to do it. Of course we will eventually learn to do such things, we might not do them as such things might not be helpful. Doesnt mean its impossible.

Most likely if it were to happen it would be a combination of some sort of technology & biological engineering to make it possible I would imagine.

The problem is your thinking of how can we do it now, we cant. Again though, this doesnt mean in the future we wont be able to do it.

My idea was all natural wings, no genetic modification etc. Organic wings. According to your theory, if i can imagine it, it can be done. So I'm imagining 100% organic wings growing from our spinal column.

Your initial statement

So, i imagine a human being with no genetic modification that grows wings. And due to the genetic nature of humans, and the requirements to achieve flight without speed, it is impossible.

Its like saying, i imagine i can flap my hands fast enough, and achieve enough downward thrust to push myself into the air 10 meters. Not modifying my hands, or my genetic make up in any way. Just being able to do it. And your statement says this IS achievable, and will fulfil the requirements. I'm not talking about future generations or whatever, but right here, right now.

Another example, i imagine it is possible for a ship to escape from the event horizon of a black hole. Now, since a mass that approaches the speed of light becomes infinitely heavy, and the speed of light isn't sufficient to pass back out of a black holes, once it passes the event horizon, it is impossible to be able to achieve this. Yet, i imagine it's possible, there for it must be.
