Instead of mucking around with the freakin' deposits, why not +50% onto the price, and take it directly out of your income.
Every-single-bit-of-naq you get goes directly, and immeadiatly into paying off the level.
So basically you get no naq until you've paid off the debt.
Anyone you attack, the naq you take is put straight in against the debt, no other trades are possible, and no one can give you naq at that time.
This means that there is no way to scam a level. You pay for it, and cannot advance until the player is clear of debt. No friends can donate money to help clear the debt.
A message should also be put up, like with ppt, but saying "in debt - legs already broken" (or something like.), so that no one wastes turns on them.

Think about it. The player cannot use any naq for repairs. There would be billions in damages, besides... just say his soldiers got pissed of at not being paid and are on strike. No army, attack or defense. Free pickings?
Wipe out powerful players, take 'em down a few hundred levels, i'm sure they could get back up eventually.

but you just said that there would be something next to their name that would say that they are in debt, legs already broken. noone would attack them, they'd just keep paying off their spy stat. this isn't a loan shark set up guys, it's a research facility, they want money before they get to work.

These ideas are interesting to say the least. Would the Spy Level be given on the spot, or would it only be given when payments ended?

or just sell everything you own... so you don't have to worry about repairs, send the naq to a friend so he can hold it... untrain all of your troops, and take a couple of months off unable to be harmed, while all of your income pays off level 23, 24, 25, 26...

This would in turn force people to keep up with you, so then they would do it... and before you know it, noone would have any naq out, we would all just have level 50 and nothing else, and the game would be a big stagnant mess.

Horrible idea.

free pickings of what? I think you're forgetting that the underlying principle of your entire idea is that they aren't making any anq.

Let's get off the topic of debt and look at the main arguments.

Pro-deposit users say:
Its 10% more expensive!
Anti-deposit users respond:
Just store weapons, thats only 20% more expensive, plus tauri and asgard get it for less!
I would respond:
Since when did tauri and asgard have the spy bonus? And with Goa'uld having the money bonus, it leaves them ALL WITH A SORT OF SPY BONUS.

Anti-deposit users say:
Max of 5 deposits... people shouldn't be able to get upgrades they can't normally afford!
Pro-deposit users respond:
But that's the whole point! (more or less, not all say this)
I would say:
Make it like a function of how much you pay and how much you pay off. For instance: I put in 1 naq for a 500 bil naq upgrade. I actually pay off 0 naq. I put in 400 bil naq for the 500 bil naq upgrade. I actually end up paying off around 350 bil naq. Thus, paying 500 bil naq for the 500 bil naq is like simply adding another deposit (which is the full price) and since it is 100% of the upgrade, it has 100% proficiency.

Formula: money actually put in = (money paid / total naq required) * money paid

The efficiency of you deposit is the same as the percentage of the upgrade you paid. This perticular formula is really harsh in my eyes, but its simpler and so I thought it would be the best to present.

Pro deposit users say:
Pay it in debt!
Anti-deposit users respond:
"No, that's just PPT," and "What about when they're attacked?"
I would say:
That is free PPT. Maybe if you literally made it debt, only an option if you have AT LEAST HALF of the money needed, and users have a seperate storage of naq (database wise) that isn't shown in the game, but can be stolen from them. When this database is as large as needed to pay off debt, its emptied and the player is back to normal. This way they must be really close to the upgrade when they do it, or they are screwed.

So, my main meaning from this post is my percentage idea: money actually put in = (money paid / total naq required) * money paid. The efficiency of you deposit is the same as the percentage of the upgrade you paid.

I would design another more forgiving formula, but I don't really care enough to spend the time. (not that I don't think this isn't fair in any way at all)

Ok ok... the idea is flawed. No need to get offensive...
