1. to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), esp. in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction: Management trainees were given a chance to role-play labor negotiators.
2. to experiment with or experience (a situation or viewpoint) by playing a role: trainees role-playing management positions.
–verb (used without object)
3. to engage in role-playing.
4. An instance or situation in which one deliberately acts out or assumes a particular character or role.
Origin:

in essence:
roleplay is the acting out of a character one has made up... level of complexity can vary a lot, from simply using a different name and operating in a style oneself rarely uses, to the complex creation of a character, with background story and such...
all forms are very common...

Kinda thought thats what it was but I wasn't quite sure, acting is probably a good alternative word of what roleplay is

much in common, yes...


main difference is that acting has script of what to say, and roleplay you just have a script describing the character & such, and you make up the lines as you go...

ive always wanted to get into role playing but ive never been an extremely creative person so i end up just reading other peoples stories and RP as an invisible mute guy :-D

if you want help creating a character for some roleplay, feel free to ask... (its not that hard to create one that is quiet... at least not for someone that has an wild imagination like we do...)


just reading the roleplay is fun too... the more complex stories are like books, except that they have many authors... and that they go down stranger paths... they generally have less of a specific target in mind... (and more of many many targets...)

im fairly sure all who play gatewars role play :smt047
unless we are actualy controlling armys off millions of troops, 8)

and if thats the case im pretty sure we all could be tryed at the The Hague and found guilty of genocide :shock:
