they are direct to dvd yes... there's nothing stating that dir-to-dvd movies cant be listed...

as for avatar... we've seen two trailers, and both of them made us very much eager to see it... and we'd never heard of it before...
one of the details we noticed in one of them, was that the script author had written in years ago, but had realized the technology to do it justice did not exist at that time... so he waited till it did before getting it filmed...

Gotta say I'm really keen on when Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is being released, but I don't think it's quite early 2010, I don't care it can't come soon enough :-D

'Shutter Island' looks good.

Also: It has Max Von Sydow in. Yay.

Yeah i read about that, and it sounds really exciteing, The premise is nothing like any scorsese film thats gone before. It sounds new, And fresh. Although the cast looks like his usual type of rabble! Remote island thriller FTW i think.

Saw some Avatar clips and the reviewer was talking about a SouthPark ref to the Smurfs because all the 'people' are blue. Looks like a CGI extravaganza. Fancy graphics are all good but not nearly as important as a decent story/script/acting/directing IMO So I hope it has more than just expensive CGI and lives up to the hype.

Prediction: Avatar will be horrible.

Why you ask? Look at the date it is coming out. December 18th is only one week before Christmas and all of the kids will be out of school then. Therefore very little word of mouth will happen, helping get more people to see it.

It will die after the first week as word of mouth spreads. :smt010

If the movie was any good it would be coming out in the summer so it could play all summer long. The movie companies have been doing this a long time and know how to maximize profits.
