can a mod merge this thread with
viewtopic.php?f=132&t=153916so that it becomes part of the ombusmens section and my current views on warnings for both myself and Lord mezz for "masking"

so in the light of what i said here i should change my verdict about the follwoing case shoudn't i ?
viewtopic.php?f=132&t=154554&start=0tropic thunder used an acrynome 'dh' and got warned for it by a mod (and yes that's a recent topic. you yourself poseted it was against the rules in there.
so what exactly will be the joint statements of the forum team on this cuz it just seems to contradic eachother all the time.
apart from that acrynomes are different from masking, why ? becausse you can't 100% prove what they ment. when you however write a word differently to bypass the wordfilter then you are technicly masking

The Policy on Acronyms was discussed a while ago, and it was decided that they were to be added to the filter, so that mods did not have to warn for them... the policy is not the same as it was in that 1 1/2 year old quote from admin...

k thanks Zeratul for clearing that up
so if Jack, (not trying to give u a warning , just u did it in this thread ) says
st f u
and use a code to by pass the filter, it's masking right
cause the filter is the key to what is ok to say here and not to say
( that a bit generalize, but it's early and i am off to work lol )

Zee whats your ruling on lord Mezz ? Can we get it down graded to a verbal warning and his forum access returned ?
i ask this based on the the fact none of u seem to have any **Filtered** (j/k) idea what the rules are.

if you were ever listening (dunno rly) dh has been a warnable offense for over a year, ask Tokko and TJ about it;)
No need to waste your time Matt.
How can you expect someone to listen when they did not even do the effort of reading user notes.

all this back and forth is all good and fine, and healthy too, however......
It is more than clear now to the causal reader of this thread that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing
so, who is going to submit a clear rule for masking ? On the mod forum, as to avoid this confession
Honestly i think it should be deni:
1) seems to like to warn for "masking"
2) she is a very clear and write well thought out concise posts
However
SINCE YA ALL DON"T HAVE CLEAR RULES>>>>>>KINDA HARD TO USE THE RULES TO WARN/BAN
u can do it, but what ever...............

This was pointed to me by a player that i will not reveal for now, yet i do believe his point is clear and the rules should be ALTERED!
b. Profanity
The use of profanity on the SGW forums is prohibited at all times. This means swearing, cursing and vulgarity. This includes the use of masking. SGW is a family orientated game and as such the language used must be suitable for children.
Obviously tho who have kids won't be pleased when they tell their mommy and daddy ST.FU or FU or FUALL will they? So if acronmys are tolerable to such limits than even masking is. Because i do believe every kids know what FU means......
And DENI you bet everything on the "written" rules, YET the RULES itself are pretty much clear to me as i would say FU fits the masking and cursing areas.... hell i often see hardcore gamers using acronyms in common language.

*sighs*
When will it get into your head finally.
The rules have been interpreted as following
1) using acronyms is not masking
2) spelling the words out and changing one or more letters in an attempt to bypass the filter is masking
This has been the case since the rules came into effect.
Changing them is neither my job nor me prerogative.
As long as there has been no announcement from the admins changing that, it stays as it is.

well said easy^
cause in the end , this is what this has been all about
not deni
not Mezz
Not me
not zeek
and lord knows not that rascal don Karnage (j/k)
but how these forums where intended to be...family orientated
some one look up the 10 words u can't say on TV and start there if u want do some real work here mods....
instead of warning and banning, fix what broke, or make a good shot at it. But that takes time and work. An some times some people are not going to be happy. But to long i have heard the moans of.."forum **Filtered**....games broke.." with the very thing u can control, passed off,,,,fourm.
If Jaeson doesn't come here, and appoints admin, then i would guess he expects u guys to address the issue and not just leave it to the next guy to figure it out.
but that means u gotta spend time looking at an issue and not just reacting to it.
sorry, i know u all work hard on these forums. Not paid, trying to help what u love, only to have it kick back on u. Not an easy thing, i have watch it take the love of the game from good players , friends and family. I maybe an jerk for all this about the filter/masking, but i just want to see this forum good as much as u all.
(and deni, i mean u in that too, to often u have with me to confuses how i view an event, with how i view the big picture....forest and the trees thing

)

Now it fits my head perfectly

Because an Acronym like U.S ---> United States
is completely normal, made from initials of words that pass the "filter/rule"
Meanwhile acronyms such as FU --->"you know the meaning"
are made from initials of the words that are forbidden and as such should follow these acronyms up.
AND IN THE RULES THERE DOESN'T SAY.
ACRONYMS ARE ALLOWED, does IT? SO I CAN SAY YOU NEED TO OBIDE THE RULES SINCE "ADMIN" DID NOT WRITE, HE JUST VERBALLY ANNOUNCED (obviously to certain parties only) ACRONYMS WERE ALLOWED.

Easy

That seems what that is Deni... at lest from this point foreward
what that dosn't say is that some acronyms have yet to be added to the filter, which in effect would makes them subject to the "masking rule " of going around the filter. Till then, i say this
if ya would say it to your GRANDMA, DON'T SAY IT HERE

There has been many discussion on this topic in the mod forums with the same result. So far there has been no announcement from admin about a chnge in the acronym policy in the mod foru,s, nor a list of newly added words to the filter.
@Easy: FU is the Acronym of the university I studied at and of my employer in the last 7 years. Is it offensive?

isn't there an age limit for GW(SGW) like 12 or something..find it hard to believe that a twelve year old haven't heard or uses swear words... honestly i don't get how you can warn/ban ppl for typing a letter and a bunch of **** i mean swearing is part of our Society. and everyone uses it every day so i don't get why we cant type what we want.. i don't really think it could hurt them to read something that they face everyday in rl..

DEPENDS ON THE CONTEXT IT IS USED IN
"I GO TO FU FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT" IS FINE
FU U SOCIALLY UNDERDEVELOPED APE" NOT SO GOOD
sorry caps lol
