anyways, this thread has been turned into something that i'm pretty sure KF didn't want to see and so i say it should stay open and also that other's (me included) have a bit more consideration for what KF is actually trying to say....

fear brigade sweety?! far from it, you see 1,2,3 such events and you laugh, 4 and you ask why they are doing what they are doing and why the media labels them as nutters. what would call it if not a trend when there are 6,7,8,9,10+ such events...mass hallucination, or a mass escape of lunatics from the local asylum?!

Attack physically authority figures is poetic justice? What the hell is that??

exactly as i wrote it, poetic justice 8)

ALL authority figures for the past 5000 years have been robbing the poor in 1 way or another, be it the recent expenses scandal in the UK or the Vatican's selling of indulgences or the Pharaohs taxing and conquering people to build their great public works. so someone smacks the pope (or a nations leader) in the face...big deal! that makes them mentally ill?! i dont call that an illness mate, thats what you call poetic justice :-)

Re: Has anyone noticed?

It is unfortunate that you chose to use such dramatic examples. As you've said, their violent nature has undermined the point which you were trying to make. There is no case to be made that someone who thought that ramming a model of a landmark into their leader's face was an appropriate form of political protest and unfairly labeled as mentally unstable.

Now, you've repeatedly stated that you only chose those examples because of their recent prominence in the media. I'm curious as to what other examples you can provide. Fathers for Justice, whose actions have been noteworthy, have yet to be labeled as mentally unstable despite the high profile and inflammatory nature of their actions. The protest movements against ID cards, the Iraq War and other issues haven't been tarred with the insane brush either.

You moan about people misconstruing your argument because of your examples, but when you choose two examples of people who are quite obviously insane to try and make an argument for the government labeling people insane unfairly.. then it's a risk you take.

Re: Has anyone noticed?

Actually various folks from Ministers & media commentators have questioned the mental sanity of the Iraqi war demonstrators. Most of these comments have appeared in papers rather than TV, but its still the mass media.

Fathers4Justice have also had several of their members in a couple of locations labelled as insane because of the stunts that the members have pulled off (non of which were violent).

Re: Has anyone noticed?

What`s the alternative?

String`em/lock em up & throw away the key for an assasination attempt on a sovereign?

Taking a swipe at a person like that isnt exactly "innocent" in the normal run of things. So they gotta put emphasis on it/them being "abnormal" so that the thing can be swept under the rug so to speak.
