Yes, they are nuts, certifiable in my book, same as every other religion. Indoctrinated to serve those who claim to speak for or interpret the will the god. A method of controlling people left over from an age when populations were scattered, communication and enforcement of law was difficult. Densely populated countries with good communication and law enforcement networks have long outgrown the need for such nonsense but even today in developed nations religious beliefs are so deeply rooted in our history that diluted versions live on. And in less developed nations they still have extreme versions.

Yes, they have been manipulated and used by outside agencies at various points in history, UK used the Arabs against the Turks, US used Afgans against the USSR, and Im sure there are many more examples if you look hard enough


So whats the point ? None of this is new, nothing can be done short term, only enforced replacement of religion with the education of scientific facts can solve it in the long run and that wont happen because so called developed nations insist on religious freedom allowing a perpetuation of ignorance.

in case you weren't aware...i never started this debate! my topic had been derailed by others to which i requested a topic split, and this is what we ended up with, then it struck me a little while ago that i remember reading something posted by the mods to the effect off "no more religious debate", anything else you want to know clever-clogs?
