What about a little S&M with your significant other, does that involve love?

That's so wrong.. but you want it to be right.... don't you.

:D

Romantic love and intimacy are never mutually exclusive. People who think they are, generally have terrible luck in the love dept.

if you or your partner lost your libido completely.. say to something like cancer.. would the love still be there?

sex should not be the be all and end all of it,

I'm not sure you can loose your libido because of Cancer.
If your partner is not sexually attractred to you anymore, it's probably because they actually dont love you anymore.
ie. If they crinch at the thought of touching you than there is something more than just cancer symptoms going on.

Sex is not an end to itself.
Think of it as a shared hobby you can both enjoy that helps bring you closer to each other.

Maybe i'm being a little lewd for some people.

From the studies I have read on Human Relationships. The key ingredient seems to be positive mutual stimulation. Basically If you enjoy doing things together and due them often, you can maintian a relationship for as long as you want.

This covers a broad range of relationships though.
This thread just discuss' the romantic kind.

What seperates a romantic relationship from the others kinds; is intimacy. Intimacy doesn't always involve sex, but refers to displays of affection outside of what a person would do in more plutonic relationships. eg. Holding hands, gougly eyes, kissing.... basically any kind of flirting.

So where Romantic relationships are concerned it is important to maintain the mutual positive stimulation and also a good lvl of intimacy.

Sex is excellent for fullfilling both these conditions. It can provide an exceptional amount of stimulation and intamacy over a short period of time. So when looking at this issue rationaly you can conclude that sex is an efficient and effective tool to help maintain your love for each other.

But it is definitely not the only thing that will meet those two conditions.

Actually, studies have shown that stimulants are different for both sexes and if both are stimulated well then there's an attraction.

Sex isn't the best stimulant. For women, the best stimulant is actually compliments on little things/listening to them. While that sounds like just basic dating advice, studies have proven that it is the best stimulus strictly because of the difference in brain activity between males and females.

Males are stimulated by aromas. Yes, the perfume of a woman does actually play the biggest factor on the attraction from the males. Thought that was interesting :)

Ofcourse, sex is still a good stimulant for both genders, but it is not a big factor in a relationship long term. This is purely scientifical lol

As for the question in the title, I think it's possible to stay in love with someone "forever", but I don't think that means it is possible to stay with them forever. It all depends on whether both people are comfortable enough with each other or if they'll get restless and argumentative towards each other.
