I would disagree with that. Nature is extremely powerful as we all obviously know, and nature has a way of readdressing the balance of things when the need arises. just because we cant see or guess at what kind of balance is/would be needed when an imbalance occurs doesn't mean one doesn't or couldn't exist simply because we have no idea what kind of rebalance would occur...if you follow my meaning :smt017

That's a lot of balancing, I even saw some unbalancing!

Anyway, I always hate it when someone tries to come up with a theory about aliens and first contact. It's almost always "they're going to kill us because we're horrible people!"

**Filtered** retarded, elitist bull **Filtered**. I mean think about it, what is at the core of all these beliefs? That the person stating is surrounded by violent, incompetent morons hell bent on killing the planet for whatever reason. If that's not elitism then I do not know what is.

On a side note: they're probably right. If there are aliens out there with the technology to travel to Earth and they decide to make contact, they probably will kill us all. Not for any romanticized reason about us bring violent or slobs, but because everyone keeps just assuming they're going to kill us all. So when they stop by for a cup of tea and a nice chat, our first instinct will be to shoot everything we've got at them.

lol so true, also they say our TV signals have been transmitted into space for decades now, any aliens with the tech to travel here have no doubt seen our TV and that alone would give them reason to stay away if they were friendly.

@Jack and Mezz, if our own history is anything to go by, whenever a more advanced civilisation has encountered (or vice versa) a lesser one, the advanced one has always wiped out or enslaved the other. even civilisations that have been at the same or equal tech level have gone toe to toe for supremacy...

Some food for thought 8-[

Human history yes, we are naturally greedy, aggressive, adversarial, expansionist. Fear the outsider, destroy what you fear, take what you are able to get away with taking, find ways to justify your actions by belittling others as lesser than us because of their chosen way of life, religion, ideology, physical appearance, level of tech etc

And we always apply our beliefs / motives / desires / reactions onto our perception of what an intelligent alien would be like.

The word 'Alien' should give it away really, as in different to us. If they exist and have knowledge of our existence they may have no interest in us, our planet, or anything we possess. And even if they did there is no reason to assume they would try to take what they want by force just because we would in their position.

As Mezz said, that's our history and the reason why is because it's survival of the strongest. An unaggressive civilization would have little defense against a barbaric civilization. History had taught us that as well. Further there is no reason to believe that such an advanced civilization would remain aggressive. They would have had the time and technology to build capable defenses and offensive force to protect themselves from aggressive civilizations.

Hate to use this, but look at Star Trek.

The carbon cycle is unbalanced by human activities by +5 according to this picture:

So, if we'd use more green technologies to produce our energy and increase the size of the forests (or at least stop the decrease in forest size overall the planet) there wouldn't be the global warming problem.

Fact is, that once the fossil fuels will be depleted (50-100 years max?) our society will degrade very fast and we need to be prepared to not be so dependent on them. I think that that is why they try to prevent with such press manipulations.

US should upgrade their tech instead of using the 70's. they better put those black projects in use b4 all is lost

2 Slight flaws in your reasoning

1) The diagram shown is over simplified and inaccurate

2) CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas. There is also Methane, Nitrous Oxide, Ozone, Halocarbons, etc

Methane for example has 21x more effect in warming the atmosphere than CO2, 2/3 of all methane release is made man ( mostly farming but also some from drilling/mining/industry ), and its increasing at a faster rate than CO2 since there are very few natural ways to remove it.

Nitrous Oxide is over 200x more more effect in warming the atmosphere than CO2, mostly released by widespread use of nitrogen-base fertilisers and sewage treatment plants.

The best way to reduce made man greenhouse gas release would be for the world to go vegetarian. I will lmao if governments try to put a 'Methane & Nitrous Oxide Footprint' tax on McDonalds.

Of course all these gasses ( inc CO2 ) combined make up less than 1% of the atmosphere, and the largest contributor to Global Warming is actually Water Vapor which alone counts for 4%. Water vapor is what you could call an accelerate when it comes to climate change, it has no direct man made contribute but even a 0.1% increase in global temp from man made or other natural events can cause and increase in water vapor which will increase the temp by 1%.

The best way to reduce global temp is to remove water vapor from the atmosphere.
