That made sense. If we want serious feedback, we need to respond to this kind of thing seriously.
But JT, I am quite sure you agree.. Robert's post was rather .. empty?

Maybe, maybe not..still all too often this is treated like a joke and thus mods are treated like fools or disrespected. The guy has an issue, pursue resolution instead of fueling the current fervrent disdain. Just this past week I was pm'd and warned and posts deleted for what was deemed spam..BUT...hundreds of posts of WORSE spam or REAL spam remained thus my pm's and ugly replies were just and after seeing the conduct in this thread even more so.

I think the disdain goes both ways. Many of the forum staff are sick and tired of the generalized complaints of abuse with the lack of any constructive criticism with specific examples and reasoning. So they no longer take the posts seriously, because nothing has changed and there is nothing they can do or act on because nothing substantial was ever posted. The forum is upset that mods don't take their complaints seriously and resort to spamming the topic. Well, there isn't much one can say to, "stop mod abuse."

It's an endless cycle until people on both sides of the conflict are willing to compromise and work together. Mods need more information in complaints, and the forum needs to know the mods will take those complaints seriously (which, as I said, requires a serious complaint).

Your complaint is clear. Robert's complaint was like going to a complaint place, telling them to "Stop them!" The proper reaction would be to ask "Whom", or "What problem" in this case.. but you can understand that being a bit difficult when a 'case' is presented in such an empty fashion..

No posts were deleted, they were moved here or here or in any of the other threads in the public dump.

And there is no need for "ugly replies" in any case. A simple "there are other bits of spam: *link here*" or something similar would suffice. Also, please note that, even if you think something is spam, others may not necessarily agree.

One last thing.

TL;DR: a small amount of off topic is okay (2, *maybe* 3 posts), but more is not okay. Once a mod asks you to stop, you should stop.

Dont give me that line of crap that spam is in the eye of the beholder Haz.. your **Filtered** stinks no matter how much dirt you throw on it.

@Juliette- point..this is a complaint thread started by rob3rt is it not? Wether he is perfectly clear or not is justifiable reason for the spam cops to tear this thread up with garbage? Sorry I dont think so. adios.

But "spam is in the eye of the beholder" is relevant.

What is spam/offtopic?
Section 4: Spam
a. Topics.
Topics will be considered spam if they fit into one of three categories.
i) They appear in the wrong section of the board.
ii) The poster has made more topics than is reasonable for one user within the day. A moderator will judge this based upon the topics created and where they are created at.
iii) The topic has already been locked by a moderator and the user has reposted the topic.

Consequence:
Topics in the wrong section will generally be moved to the correct section with no consequence. Users who post too many topics or repost locked topics will be given one warning point.

b. Replies
Replies will be considered spam if they do not contribute to the discussion of the topic, or derail the topic from the intended purpose as defined in the opening post. This may include multiple replies that contain nothing more than emoticons or small words such as ‘lol’. While it is appropriate to indicate something is amusing, drowning out a whole thread with such posts makes it hard to follow for all users. In addition, creating consecutive posts as opposed to using the edit function will be considered spam (referred to as double or triple (or more) posting).

Note:
Replying to the official post of a Moderator in a topic is spam. Discussing the action that the Moderator has taken belongs in the correct sections of the forum, or in private messages.

Consequence:
A polite note from a moderator will be personally issued requesting the user cut down the amount of irrelevant posts. Repeat offenders will be given one warning point.
These are up to interpretation. One person may see a post as spam, whereas another intreprets it as on topic. The same applies vice versa. So yes, "spam is in the eye of the beholder".

Also, the "**Filtered** stinks no matter how much dirt you throw on it" is irrelevant. You can have different interpretations of spam, but **Filtered** is **Filtered**, there is no grey area as to what defines it.

Then by your own logic a mod team is completely unnecessary, especially spam cops :smt043

While many of the rules are more straightforward, some are more open to interpretation by the mod or mods involved. That being said, many of the posts marked as spam I have seen recently were in reply to moderator posts, which is covered quite clearly in the rules: "Replying to the official post of a Moderator in a topic is spam. Discussing the action that the Moderator has taken belongs in the correct sections of the forum, or in private messages." This topic is the type of thing we want happening, rather than people ranting in a war topic or a discussion topic about what a mod should or shouldn't do.

There are many pros and cons to leaving other spam posts in a topic, depending on their severity, and this has been discussed multiple times. It would be useful to post about specific situations where you feel that it has been handled badly so as to get a discussion working.

That's a crock of **Filtered** too..I replied 2 times directly to mods in the thread and will do so again because let's face it..going through the proper channels or whatever... :smt043 is a waste of time...still my point remains..you intrpreted war talk as spam and spam as war talk but Hey..it's all a matter of individual perspective right? So if that how **Filtered** rolls nowadays as the game falls ever closer into the abyss...WTH are you and he and she and them for? spam cops? This thread is proof of your inept ability to do a forum proper.

There is a difference between replying to a mod in a thread, and replying to a mod's official actions/post within a thread. The latter is spam, the former is not.

Also, the interpretation of the rules is not a new thing. It has been there forever. Each mod has a different opinion when it comes to the gray area within each of the rules. Some are more strict about the letter of the law, others are more lenient.

Well..the old grey area of interpretation excuse, how quaint. **Filtered**...you don't do **Filtered**, then at a whim all of a sudden a thread is policed and bad mod work is justified with grey area excuses and alternate arguments within....the fact is you police a war thread with more vigor than you do a serious discussion thread...as a matter of fact you all lead the way in crapping up serious discussion threads with spam, lame excuses and petty insults. DO IT RIGHT OR GTF OUT.

Would you prefer rules that allow no options for leniency?
It'd be far easier to enforce. Of course, it'd also mean a lot more permabanned users... Probably quite a few within a couple of months.
