It's because this game is 24/7 even when you logout the game never stops. So you never know when or who will mass, farm or raid you. Constantly worrying about the game makes it seem like ages instead of months have gone by. Which is probably why the majority of people get much more fulfillment from text based MMO's than real video games.

I've only played for a year and a half, but could swear it feels like it's been three... :o
