Well said, Bad Wolf.

I agree that the rules need to be enforced, people need to know a banstick is waiting for them if they misbehave. Also true, if you aren't around to do your job, or aren't doing it properly... you shouldn't be a moderator.

My only real concern is for the selection of mods. You say that mods should be elected by popular support - selected directly from and by the community.

It's true that people need to know the mods in order to respect and trust them, but making being a moderator a popularity contest is a conflict of interest. Moderators moderate. People don't like to be moderated. A mod would face losing their position simply for doing their job.

I think a sort of dual-stage voting like what Zeratul proposed would work. It would involve feedback from both ends, community and administration. I have no problem with the members having some say in the mod selection, I just don't want to see people getting elected as moderators for reasons other than that they would do their job properly.

I suppose a repeat of the last mod selection could be attempted, but it looks to me that the results of that were probably lower than desired - looking at how many mods were selected then, vs. how many there are now.

Sorry if this seems like spam, always seems like this kind of discussion starts when a mod posts their agitations.

that didnt look like spam to us... you also posted what we meant in a shortened version... which helps those that dont like to read long posts... (and we have a tendency to write long at times...)

I think there should be nomination by community, and decision by admin team

how about a vote which the admin team having a set number of odjections they can use, if say 10 ppl get put forward and they dont like 5 they can only chose to refuse 3. otherwise its still them making decision

that would make it possible for people that really shouldnt be mods to become mods... it would be better if there had to simply be good reasons for why someone shouldnt be mod... that would make it better...

Or maybe people should just treat the Mods better than they do now? With some respct and appreciation, rather than constant screeches of "Bias!" every time they try to do their job? Teal'auc gets this every other day.

And support from the Admin wouldn't go astray either.

the admins do support the mods... at least that is our impression... but the public really needs to respect the mods more... for example of more respect, check how people act towards the chaos mods... there is no problem with respect there...

In my personal opinion, not that it will mean much to everyone else, it is time for all of the forum team to be completely replaced.

It is time for the next generation to take the wheel and drive for a while.

This means that all of the old school players here that are helping to run things now need to step down and a new team of newer players moving forward into the future.

If the older players wish to still help out in the capacity of answering n00b questions and things like that it would be great but the actual forum team needs to pass the torch.

mods deserve respect. they aint getting it. hell knows i dont want the job. its a thankless, dirty, crappy task. anyone with any brains wouldnt do it, so why are you complaining you get bad ones around here? i consider Psi to be seriously Retarded. no-one else has managed to stick around for over 18months, no breaks, always active. only someone completely derranged can survive this place for that long. either that, or psi has more patience then the rest of us put together.

bonuses for being a mod

you can lock topics

yeah, thats about it.

the crap you deal with

insults, masses, spammers
every decision is gone over with a fine tooth comb. you lock the wong topic, say the wrong thing, and the whole forum wants blood.

and yes, buck that quote is still in my sig :p

and i think genlucky's quote from there suites this thread VERY well

Well first the one point that was mentioned.

Mods that cant be active for some tme shoudl be dismissed.

I don't aggree with that (selfish). But another mod should be choosen to help out if there arent enough.

If somebody is a good mod there is no sense to remove him/her for absence since the work can contiue once the person is back.

If you want a new generation i would aprreciate if you could make a list of your candidates and the positions that woudl help the discussion.

cheers flavar

Nope, most of us older players kept our positions.
I had mine until I resigned, just as many are doing now.

What I am saying is that modding may be a thankless job but it does give a person a feel of authority.
For a long time now most of the forum staff have had that authority and now it is time to give it up to the next generation of players.

This means everyone.

there are several mods that were new with the last changing that now have gotten much authority, and have (mostly) replaced the old ones in those sections...

for example, how many of the old spam mods are visible parts of the misc mods?
who is now the only suggestions/reports mod?
who were the regular section mods (not section head) of the markets earlier?
who among the current race mods were there before the last changing?
who was the section head of chaos before last changing?

from what we can remember, none of the current ones in the listed positions/groups were in those position before last changing...

You're right, much has changed.

I have remained head of the Markets though, everything else seems to have shuffled somewhat.

As for people putting forth their opinions on what they think should be going on, only the Admins have the power to change things when they see fit.
