How does that ruin your idea? They do something to the sun and get caught in the effect. Maybe its a % chance that they get caught in the effect and not something that happens every time. The person attacked should however still have a chance to stop the grav flux that happened to the sun.

I like this! A percentage chance means people might be willing to risk their mothership to do a crapload of damage, I wouldnt make the percentage too much higher than 20% ish, but the damage dealt should somewhat reflect the risk to your ms...?
or mabye if one are blown both are blown
Mabye even include a smaller percentage chance that if the defender loses their ms could be caught up in the explosion... say 1/4 - 1/2 of that of the attackers risk.
If the damage was dealt as a percentage basis, depending on your ms stats I think that would suit all players mabye? I'm not sure on the formula at all. up to a max... assymptote mabye or something?

perhaps make it like a new mission for MS? blow up sun mission... ship is flung out into uncharted territory, and uses 24hrs to return...
costs are of course also high...

wait, you use your ms to fly into the sun?
why not destroying the MS completely then and the more equipped slots you got the bigger the boom will be...

Its crap because people upgrade their ms's and multis wont need to alabrax, unless someone can think of a defense then it wont work.

Well thats just the thing... if the first part of it is that your Mother Ships have to fight... then Multies will have to dump tons in to a MS that can make it past the defenders mothership. This should protect people from multies for the most part I think. MS's are so huge now that it wouldn't make much since to make a multi just to do this if you have to dump a bunch of naq in to it.

The idea is that a MS with only 1000 slots etc.. would basically do very little damage and probably would not get thru. (so multies would cost a fortune)
The more filled slots on the MS the bigger the flare. Of course the MS defending destroys filled weapons and shields weakening the effect.

1. You cant have different sized flares and
2. Your MS cant die, neither can.

Personally, i hate this Idea, even with it not being able to stack up on a player and only being able to have it done to you once a week, and only losing 0.05% of your miners, even THAT for me, would kill me more than twice as fast as i can grow. i would lose a bit more than 720k UU a week if someone decided to keep hitting me with that. i get about 330k UU a week.
Someone with only losing 30k turns, could effectively eliminate my entire account in 1 month.
